On a whim I picked up this Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum with the 10.5" barrel. I know it's silly looking, but holy hell is it fun to shoot.

And ... based on the price of .44 special and .44 magnum ammo, it looks like I will definitely be reloading for this (ditto for the .45 Colt my Uberti El Patron likes to munch on).

Anyone else here into these silly old cowboy guns?

Oh yea, now you did it. The wheelgun curse is upon you! LOL I bought my first cowboy gun about 10 yrs ago. As a matter of fact it was a 10.5 in 44 mag blackhawk. I now have a 7.5 44 redhawk, 44 blackhawk in 357, 45 colt and my latest is a 327 Fed. Mag ss blackhawk. yes, I reload (alot) and at least on of these guys goes with me to the range each and ever time out. I have found them addicting to the point that I have to make my self train with my 1911.
I hope you have as much fun with them as I do!

Yes, I'm starting to understand the addiction. And I can see why these appeal to reloaded so much. I've been reloading for almost 20 years ... can't believe it took me this long to discover single action!

44mag reloading is the only way to feed the obsession!!! I got several marlin 1894 44mags, and a super redhawk, they are deff fun to shoot, but reloading is a must.....

I'd say they are popular. You hardly ever see any used one's for sale. I have a Ruger Single 7 in 327 Fed Mag. 30 Carbine or greater power in a small frame 7 shot revolver.
I do want another one or two in stainless in 357 Mag and possibly 41 Mag.

I reload for a Redhawk 44mag/44spec, GP100 357, S&W 460XVR and M29. Probably couldn't afford to shoot them otherwise. Also have a Uberti El Patron 45 Colt. I like big guns and I can not lie.

I wouldn't call it silly looking. The 10.5" Super Blackhawks were designed and introduced by Ruger to fill a specialized segment of the shooting industry. Their focus at that time was somewhat for handgun hunting , but they were primarily intended for the handgun silhouette game, as were the 357 Maximum Rugers. I bought one of the first 10.5" 44 Mag guns back when they first came out and used it for silhouette shooting. I was burning about 3000-5000 rounds per season back then. I still have a swollen knuckle from shooting that gun.
