I'm flying with a handgun only in a couple weeks and was trying to figure out a affordable yet secure way of checking it.
The times I've checked a firearm before it's included a long arm so the pistol was just thrown in the big case.

I was pricing new cases and all kinds of stuff and realized I already own a pelican case, it just doesn't have the correct guts.

After a bit of research I found this: Pelican 1200 3-Piece Foam Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0052599ZK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_ujtukerEELhJ5

Came in the mail the other day and I figured since my drains are cleared already I'd take some time and work on it.

It's my first experience with the pluck it foam.

    I think it looks good.

On a related note be careful buying padlocks for pelican cases. I am now the proud owner of a key matched set of padlocks that do not have long enough shanks and since they were only $5 aren't worth returning.

For the price you paid for the foam, you could have bought a pretty sturdy case with pull and pluck foam from sam's club. I have one, and gifted one to a friend. It was 19 bucks recently.

Way to take the wind out my sails noob. Thankfully my wife doesn't read the board.

One of my considerations was the size since I will be throwing the case into my check bag.
I hadn't seen that on at Sam's though I did see this: https://m.samsclub.com/ip/plano-fl-xl-pistol-mil-spec-case/prod20653024
I thought it was too big for this application.
I like the reuse aspect of the extra foam. And if I'm bringing a substabtially different pistol then I get more foam and make a separate set.

as as fyi, that sams club case with that gun would not pass air travel guidelines on most airlines.

you need to place the pistol in the case so that you cannot touch it with the latches undone and locks on. it looks like you'd be able to touch part of that gun.

One thing I did in my cases with the pluck foam was to cut the pulled out parts in half, and put them back in so my pistols would ride higher in the case.

I played around with that a bit, cut the plucked piece in half and put it in there. It holds the pistol against the top foam a little better.
