Sams club has a pelican 1720 knock off for 70 bucks.
    There's also a 20 inch case for 36 bucks.

I bought one of their smaller cases last year and it was very sturdy and I would say every bit as strong as a pelican.

Amazon has the Plano All Weather Tactical Gun Case 42-Inch for $68 with Prime shipping. It's sold by Amazon so they add sales tax. I have the 36 inch version and it's pretty nice, albeit not as sturdy as the Pelican 1700 it "replaces". I picked it up for $70 at Academy. One noticeable cost difference is in the thickness of the plastic. When you open the top and grab the corners, you can move one hand away from you and the other toward you and the top bends a lot more than with the Pelican. How does the thickness of the Sam's case compare to the Pelican?

Does the Plano case have wheels? This one and the pelican case does

No, the Plano does not. I've got a few hard cases in various qualities. If the Member's Mark is closer to the Pelican in terms of material thickness, then it's a better deal for me than the 42" Plano. If the material of the Member's Mark is closer to the thickness of cheap hard cases (think small tackle box thin like pictured below), then the Plano is a better deal for me, even without the wheels. I don't have a Sam's membership so I can't just pop in after work and check it out. It looks like a good buy and I'm not knocking it. I'm just trying to let people know what else is out there that compares to it and trying to gauge its quality compared to the alternatives. For me, and the reason I asked my question above, the quality of the case is the most important factor. Wheels are just an added bonus.

    From the Sam's website:
    Outside dimensions: 44.37" x 16" x 6.12"
    Inside dimensions: 42" x 13.5" x 5.25"

    From the Pelican website:
    INTERIOR (L X W X D)
    42.00" x 13.50" x 5.25" (106.7 x 34.3 x 13.3 cm)
    EXTERIOR (L X W X D)
    44.37" x 16.00" x 6.12" (112.7 x 40.6 x 15.5 cm)

So unless they just copied and pasted, they appear, at least on paper, to be the same thickness material.

They are heavy duty and I would say every bit as sturdy as my pelican cases. I currently keep my Mac 10 in the case by the same company that sams carried last year.

I didn't grab one yesterday since I already have a 1720 but if they lower the price like they did last year to get rid of the smaller case (16 inch) I'll jump on it. There's also a 20 inch case that I may go back and get. I have to check my mpx to see how long it is.

Saw them at the Airline Highway Metairie store the other day. Opened one up and looked at it. Seemed nice.

Thanks for the info- will look at the Covington Sams this week for Christmas presents for family, and a set for me.
