    Favorite caliber. Excellent woods sidearm.
What is your handgun for the caliber and what's your favorite round?

I've got a couple 10s but I carry this Sig while bowhunting with UW 200grain XTP

I was thinking of getting my first one. The ammo price always scared me, but they say it can be cut substantially with reloading.

What do you think for my first one? Rock Island, Ruger SR1911, or just a Glock 20?

If you can shoot them all try that and find what you like best.I shoot a 1911 best and like the single stack grip so that is why I have a 1911 in 10mm as well as this Sig 220.If you want higher capacity then block or something like a EAA mat be more to your liking. An all steel pistol will soak up recoil more than a polymer if you are recoil sensitive as well

Glock 20SF with a KKM barrel and 230gr Hard cast flat nose Double Tap rounds. Good enough to take down a bear, pig, moose with good shot placement. If carried for urban self defense carry 180 gr double tap bonded hollowpoints.

If you get a steel guide rod and 23# recoil spring it cuts the recoil out and it is very pleasurable to shoot.

    Love my Glock 20!
May actually use this one in my next GSSF match, instead of my 19

I've never fired a 1911 10mm, but the recoil seems quite manageable (even before putting the comp in there) for the 20.

And yes, factory FMJ ammo is more than 3 times 9mm usually....which is why I load my own (9 & 10s)....MUCH cheaper to go that route!
Don't know if you are in BR, but I'm up at FRC 10-12 times a months (including usually at least one weekday during lunch) if you wanted to see what the Glock 20 feels like...

Wouldn't mind a 1911 style because I prob wouldn't care about capacity and the metal frame would help. Never knew EAA had one I'll have to check it out.

That looks like a beast. I didn't want to spend too much on my first one in case i didn't like shooting or reloading for it (pistol is usually a breeze though). How would you say it compares to shooting a Glock 21? Harder, way harder, or close to the same?

I'm sure the Sig and Dan Wesson are way nicer than any of the others I was looking at. Trying to stay a good bit under 1k

The one thing I don't like about the Ruger is the bushingless barrel with full length guide rod.Harder to take down for cleaning but other than that it looks like a well put together pistol.I do like the bull barrel

I've only fired a 21 a couple of times, and it didn't seem to have anymore pop/snap too me...but the 2 21 owners that I let shoot mine 20 said that it did have a little more snap to it, compared to their 21s.
I would say "close to the same", but also consider, in shooting my 180 grain reloads that I load on the lighter side...

Just picked me up a FBI issued Smith and Wesson 1076 with 3 mags. Very mild shooter. That all steel frame takes the bite out of the 10mm even with full house loads.
