You could kill hogs with the 300BO. Just make sure you know the capabilities of the bullet you are using so you know what the ethical killing range is.

30-30 will handle deer out to about 150yrds in my opinion especially if hunting in areas that are thickly wooded and the clear shooting distance is limited to about that range. Also .243 will handle deer with "heavy" loads of 100-105grn ammo. Many deer have been taken with this caliber rifle by a few friends and their children many times. It has very light recoil and bullet placement is the key but, it does the job. .308 and 30-06 work out well as well. The 30-06 of course will have more recoil than the .308. I have hunted deer with the .243 but never got the chance to make a shot with it. I would not hesitate to use it or at least a .308 rifle, another caliber that I never got a chance to make a shot with but have no doubts that it would do the job. Also, I would not hesitate to hunt deer with the 30-30 rifle. Have a few friends that have harvested a few deer with that caliber as well.

30-30 has killed more deer than the next 2 deer hunting calibers combined.

Hmm. A long time ago that may have been the case, but the 3030 has been irrelevant for so long I don't think that is a valid claim any longer.

That said, nothing wrong with using a 3030 if that is what you have. No need to buy something you may not need.

Yeah I knew I was over speaking but no shame in a 3030

The OP has a 30-30 already so he would not be buying something he may not need. I would not hesitate to hunt deer with a 30-30! And, I would not hesitate to hunt deer with a .243 with 100grn softpoint rounds either! My next choice would be a .308 with 150grn soft point ammo.

I am not sure what a "clone" is, but the original 1903 is 30-06 the A4 was designed to mount a scope, so as long as it is relatively accurate it would be great for deer.

Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore had a Thompson Center .270 with scope for $285 - rebate knocks it down to around $210.
Waiting for mine, seems there out of stock now.

This. 3006 will probably take any game in North America, though I'd want more for grizzly.

I've taken two deer with the 300 blackout, the barnes 110gr TSX bullets are deadly but shot placement is king. That caliber/platform is so easy to shoot well though, it shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to take a 30-30 in the woods either. If you are hunting some place with long open shots over 200 yards, I'd bring more gun to ensure an ethical shot. For most of the close up swamps and woods we have here, either of them will be perfect. Hell, if it's really thick that 44mag would do the trick as well.

Shot placement is the thing I have taken deer with a 22 mag. and every caliber that was named above except for the 300 BO as I don't have one.

Sorry a 1903 "A4 Clone" is a term used for fake A4 sniper. as the Real ones are costly. Where a regular 1903 is made into an A4
So a fully rebuilt 1903 Remington Branded 1943 rebuilt Creedmoor A4 { clone } got it from a internet friend at CMP.
It was shot at CMP VSM in PHX, OKC, and Talladega. And looks new but has Repro Redfield base, and China repro scope but good new barrel
It shot it at 300 and 600, well with the scope everyone said was "ok"
Thinking this may be the one with some 30-06 loaded to M1 spects. It can should not be shot with regular hunting ammo
So handloads with Nosler Partion, or Nosler Accubond, Bullets. That I have on hand? Do Have some Ballistic tips but think they are not for hunting?

If you're hunting in LA or MS brush the .30/30 will do just fine. If its more open country that .30-06 will be a better choice. Either way, take them to the range and see where point of impact is at different distances. Those close shots can fool you. Try a snap shot at the center of a paper plate standing unsupported at 25 yards and let us know how you do with that scope.
