wheres the lever gun fans at??? I started my lever gun fascination prob 25 years ago when my dad passed downto me, an old marlin 1894 44 mag, ever since then ive been hooked.. I still got that ol trusty 44, don't shoot her as much as the newer ones, I have killed quite a few deer with that rifle. those of you who have hunted with a rifle in 44 mag know its a deer slammer :mamoru: . I have mostly moved into the 1895 45-70's.. I reload so I can shoot the 44 and 45/70 very cheap which helps feed my addiction. Heres some of my lever guns and how I got them set up, please chime in on how you feel about your leverguns and how you got them set up, and some hunting pics also!!!

Work and family don't let me get in the stand as many days as I used to but most of the time I'm carrying an Uberti 1876 in 45-60 WCF with the full length barrel (~28 inches). This rifle is what got me back into reloading as the ready loaded ammo is quite expensive. The result is that much of my disposable income has been donated to Louisiana gun and reloading, Midway, Giraud, and others.

I just have one, a marlin 1895 gbl 45-70 I traded for last year. I put a Leupold 1.5-4x scout scope on an XS rail. It's a very fast woods gun that hits like a sledgehammer, got two deer with it last year.

I want more though, definitely something in 357, maybe a 22 mag henry if I get the chance to hog hunt a WMA

I would love a .357 lever gun, have seen a couple but never had funds avaible when I have seen them.... Yea that 45/70 is a hammer, wether you shoot big and slow or light and fast( well light is still heavy 300gr+ lol) I haven't found anything that can take it and run

Lever guns are among my favorites.

My first lever gun was an old Winchester 1894 30-30. I have killed many deer with lever guns. For a while there I was hunting with fancy guns with nice scopes and all this other crap and it took the fun out of hunting. I switched back to hunting with lever guns and have had a blast ever since. My go to deer hunting rifle is usually my Winchester 94AE Ranger. I picked it up for 100.00 years ago and it has killed the bulk of my deer since.

I have had a slew of Lever guns over the years

    Some of the ones I have had and/or still have are;

    Winchester 1894 in 38-55 26" barrel
    Winchester 1894 in 30-30 26" barrel
    Winchester 1894 carbine 30-30 20" barrel
    Winchester 94 .44 mag Trapper 16" barrel
    Winchester 94 carbine 30-30 20" barrel
    Winchester 94 .357 20" barrel
    Winchester 1892 38-40 20" barrel
Several Clone 1892 rifles in .45 Colt, .357/.38
    Marlin 1894 SS .44 mag 20" barrel
    Marlin 1893 26" barrel in 32-20
    Marlin 1895 Guide Gun 45-70
    Marlin 1895 45-70
    Marlin 1894 . 444
    Marlin 336 30-30

    Uberti 1873 .45 Colt 24" barrel
    Uberti 1873 .45 Colt 18" barrel
    Uberti 1873 .357 20" barrel

    Winchester 1887 Lever 12g
    Winchester clone 1887 Lever 12g

    Winchester 9410 .410

There may be more that I can't think of.

Sadly, many of those were traded off at different times but I do still have several of them.

I will have to dig for pics. Many were on photobucket but that is not working right now.

Here is a few of my 38-88 though.

Yeah, I grew up a Winchester guy. We have always had both but I think I leaned towards them because most guns in western movies were Winchester. It was not till much later that I actually appreciated the Marlins more.

I will tell you a story though,

I grew up in North Alabama on property that was once owned by a notorious outlaw named Rube Burrow. He was a train robber in the 1890s who was eventually shot and killed. His favorite rifle was a Marlin 1888 top eject and he loved the rifle so much that one day it started to rain while he was on the run and he wanted to get the rifle inside so he stopped by these two black guys house and went inside. They knew who he was and was scared of him very much so when he asked them if they had anything they could wipe down his rifle with one of the men said he would wipe it down for him. Once they had his rifle the men jumped him and captured him.

He was taken to jail in Linden Alabama where he would eventually escape but instead of leaving on the run he decided he wanted to go and find the man who had his beloved Marlin. The gunfight ensued and Rube shot the man leaving him paralyzed but he was also shot and killed. So, he loved the Marlin so much it got him captured and then later killed.

Growing up on his property we were all told stories of unfound gold and I looked at the photo of Rube in his coffin with his guns all my life. For the longest time I just assumed it was a Winchester. As I got older and started knowing more about guns I found out it was a Marlin 1888. I eventually tracked down the rifle and was able to go photograph it. A later date I was able to actually hold it.

That was a big deal to me since I grew up playing cops and robbers style games as a child in the hills of Alabama as Rube Burrow.

There is just something about a lever gun and a single action pistol that just gets to me, maybe I watched too many westerns with dad as a kid... sadly my guide gun is the only thing in that genre I own. I had a marlin 30-30 for awhile but money was tight at the time and I needed something legal for primitive season so I sold it and got a CVA 35 whelen.

I agree that there is just something special about a lever gun and a single action. This is my Uberti El Patron and my Marlin 1894, both in .357. They are beautiful guns, and a hoot to shoot.

I think I like .38/.357 because it's such a versatile load. You can load 'em mild and make a nice plinking round, or you can load a heavy bullet over a stiff charge, and use it to take deer or hogs.

Yessir, a .357 single action and lever gun are about the perfect combination!

My favorite style of rifle. Killed my first deer with a Marlin 1894 44 mag. back in 1977. Sadly let that one get away from me.

Got started on them a few years back when I picked up in a trade a Winchester 1892 sporting rifle in 38-40 caliber made in 1906. Since then caught the bug and have managed to collect a few, both Marlin and Henrys.

    Here's my list, so far:

Henry 22 standard H0001 I believe is the model
Henry 22 Frontier with octagon barrel
    Henry 22 Golden Boy
    Henry 17 HMR Frontier
    Henry 17 HMR Golden Boy

    Marlin 336 30-30 1981 mfr date
    Marlin 336 "Texan" 30-30 1974 mfr date
    Marlin 1894 44 mag 1996 mfr date
Marlin 1894 CBL in 45 colt, 1996 mfr date
Marlin 444S in 444 caliber, 1983 mfr date
Marlin 444P guide gun in 444 caliber, 2000 mfr date
Marlin 1895M guide gun in 450 Marlin guide gun, mfr date 2000 I think
Marlin 1895G guide gun 45-70, mfr date 2001
    Marlin 1895CL, 45-70, mfr date 2008
    Marlin 1895CB, 45-70, mfr date 2008

    and last but not least:
Marlin model 410, 410 bore shotgun, mfr date 2003

I'll try and get some group pics.

Marlin 1897 with skinner rear sight and a Lyman globe front sight. Rimfire perfection as far as I'm concerned. Squirrels stand no chance.
