My father lived in Arkansas for a while as a kid. He is an MD and did emergency work for a while. One day they were duck hunting and a guy he knew had his loaded shotgun (possibly older double barrel?) fall through the floor board of the blind (some 2x4s staggered). It discharged into his lower jaw, essentially blowing his whole mandible apart, blinding both eyes. They said they dragged him a mile or so out of where they were hunting until they came across a farmer who gave them a ride to their vehicle. He said the whole time on the ride to the vehicle/hospital the guy would just pull flesh/teeth from his airway so he could breath. He told me it's the worst thing he's ever seen in his entire medical career.
