I got one with my ishvesk 91/30 year before last, I did grind the shoulder on the front sight post to zero it for 100 instead of 300. It hits about like a 30-06 since they are somewhat comparable. Even with fmj it rolled a decent sized spike. Lots of people hunt with old milsurps, mostly because they are generally a cheap way to get into a decently powered round.

Feral hogs with the M1 and Swiss K-31. I prefer the US Rifle Cal. 30 M1. If it was good for killing fascists and communists its good for killing hogs.

In my final year of college (1969) I only owned a Sears 12 gauge pump. A nice deer rifle was too much for my budget and I bought a surplus M98 Mauser in 8mm at a local hardware store for $29.95. I hunted with it for years, iron sights, and took numerous deer. I obtained nicer rifles over time but that old Mauser is still in the safe and goes out once and a while.

I guess I’ve been watching too many WWII movies. An 88 HE round would really do a great job on a heard of deer. I must of hit the 8 twice, I don’t know. I meant 8mm instead of 88mm. Sorry!

Man, just think of all the arguments you could have on the internet about shooting a herd of deer with 88mm. Ammo type to use and all that.

My brother used to shoot nutria with M1 Carbine. That is all I can think of for sure.

My first deer rifle was a Savage 219 30-30 but my first "real" deer rifle as I thought as a kid was a Bubba'd Winchester 1917 my grandpa gave me that had been hacked up by great uncle back in the 30's. Beyond that, I've hunted a few times with a K31 and T38 but never taken anything with them.

That 71/84 was not one I suspected that would still be in use!!! Dang... One day I need to get out and go hunting... All I have is mil-surp so what weapon I bring will depend on what I get out and go hunting for...
