So I have some questions about Mausers... I have an antique 1893 Turk Mauser in 8mm coming in (NO FFL!!!) and a Spanish 1916 in 7.62. So there comes my questions... I know nothing about Mausers I do know these are both based on the 1893 cock-on close design (I prefer that after using an enfield). But I am curious what do people know about these rifles? I hear rumors about their ability to withstand modern loading (The 1916 has mixed messages about modern 308 ammo..) I do not have any photos, but should be coming in while I am on Pass (I am deploying and about to leave the country after thanksgiving). This will be my last one in a while but I may internet shop and let the rifles pile at my local FFL dealer and get them when I come back ;). Now I am not completely Mauser-less I have a RC K98 with a BYF 1940 make!!! But nothing matches, but at least it shoots like a laser!!! And an unknown GEW 98 its marking have been scrubbed, there is a amberg lion left on there and some traces of proof marks, and its got a nice blue to it... Dont know if this was done stateside or to slip by the treaty post-WW1... It had so much crap in the bore it took a act of god to get it out of there... hopefully it shoots better now... I will have to dig in my phone for photos... So what say you guys? (Pics welcome)

I have a Mauser or two.
As long as the 1916 is in good shape you can shoot 308 in it without trouble. I’ve had bought mine back in 1985.

Love my Swede M96, but might sell eventually since I seldom get to shoot anymore, plus my interests lie more toward lever actions. :)

Back in the 70's I used to go to woolworths on Canal Street in New Orleans and buy mausers for 19.95 each. They would have them standing up in barrels. 19.95 take your pick. They had Spanish 7's and German 8's and some misc. I went through a bunch of them sporterizing them and reselling them. There was no paper trail back them.

I've owned an Argentine M91 in the past, and a Spanish M95 (?). Both gone now. My sole Mauser is a Swedish M96, all matching, in very excellent condition.

My favorite shooting rifle has to be my Swiss K31, followed closely by my RC 98K, after that I like shooting my M39 mosin, and my boomstick M44 mosin... Then I enjoy breaking out my other mausers from time to time to get a different feel. I just wish there was a range that I could stretch these rifles out... I guess I can try and get a membership with Palo Alto or something when I get back.

I’m jealous I wasn’t around for these deals! I wasn’t legal to purchase firearms until Obama was elected.... what a terrible time to get into firearms!!

Same turned 18 in 2009... All I ever known is high prices... In loving the current market.

Deals are still out there. You just need to be on the hunt and have the money to spend.
The top three on this rack I bought last year.
The top one is a Yugo M48, got it out the door for $200 at a local pawn shop.
Next is an Enfield No1 MkIII, got it from a friend for $150. The bore is about shot out.
The next is a Brazilian 1908 in 7mm. Bumped into a guy trying to sell it and having no luck. I offered him $200 and he said yes.
