Were the highest state for tax, well above new york.

We pay the highest in car tax, grocery tax,etc...

Now as of august,we now pay tax on every online biz.
because we live in La.I can go to tx at my other home
and order whatever from whomever,no tax !!!!

Is Louisiana that broke or just being thieves.

If this keeps up,I will be forced to move. Why would I
pay for taxes that don't exist in any other state.

While is sucks having a state income tax and having a 10% sales tax. My sister lived in South Carolina and there’s a personal property tax. They have to pay taxes on not just their house but their cars every year.

My other siblings live in Texas and their property tax is significantly higher than mine.

The way I see it, you win some, you lose some. Taxes may be lower in NY but property is more expensive, in which will also raise how much you will owe in property taxes.

These other states mentioned have something to show for their tax money. What do we have, crumbling infrastructure, one of the worst education systems in the country and the best politicians money can buy...

My plan was to move to Tennessee this year but last years flood was a $100,000+ loss. Paid house off year before flood and dropped flood insurance.

Moved to Texas earlier this year, don’t regret it. Property taxes are very high, no state income taxes is awesome, roads and schools are WAY better. I do miss the restaurants and the people!

No taxes on food items either. Better roads, gun shops on every corner, food does suck though. If you have a teenage driver insurance is MUCH cheaper. 16 year old male was $88 per month to add for three vehicles with max coverage.

I agree it’s cheaper to live elsewhere. But I’m gainfully employed in New Orleans so that’s the driving force to stay. But honestly year after year New Orleans has given me less and less reasons to stay. I have a plan for the future and if it works out, I may have a dual residence, being my primary in Texas, but keeping my house in New Orleans.

Other states tax just as much if not more in way or another.
But what pisses me off is we have more natural resources than most states. Think about the taxes that all the plants pay the state and have been for decades, all the oil royalties and taxes, and the fact that a long time ago all casino revenue to the state was supposed to go to the education system....literally all of it.
Someone explain to me where all that money went. And it’s a ton of money.

I don't believe that money ,if any being paid is going anywhere.
Schools are terrible ,run down,,50 year old buildings with mold.
Run down hospitals ,bizs,,etc..I know cal cam has black mold
and running water down walls and its not in a pipe lol.

I don't think the factory's pay a dime.I'm not sure of that ,but
have heard many times them and the casino's pay a small
amount compared to what the dividends are for them.

As others have stated, our roads are atrocious.Bridges are
falling down and in bad need of repair.

    I just don't get it.As much taxes as we pay,where the f%$
    is it????

The North Carolina tax collector appraised my 2006 GMC pickup truck as being worth about $14,000 in 2016. That resulted in an annual property tax bill of about $160 to the State of North Carolina. So, if you have a new car that costs $40,000, you'll be paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $350 per year in property taxes. On your car.

Some things are more expensive in Louisiana, and some are cheaper.

The big plants take advantage of every loophole in the system to save money. And the state lets them for jobs. If the plants leave our economy is screwed. Take Baton Rouge for example, if you delete either LSU or Exxon the city is done. I assure you they still pay allot though. And there are allot of them in the state.
But yeah, where does it all go.
I don’t know if any of y’all read the report card on our state that a team of experts were hired to create but If you haven’t you should. If you want to be pissed off you can download it here.

Go vote and make a difference.

But right now, we need people who are not part of the problem to run for office, get elected and make a difference. Enough of them in will change things. Problem is, no one can afford the big 2 republicrat backed people who keep getting elected.

Ten years ago I was retiring in Louisiana. No longer. It's not just the current state of the State and Cities. It's that the electorate keeps voting people into office that have no business governing. Consider New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina, the entire pumping infrastructure and levy system was brand spanking new. By 2017 we find out that no one did any maintenance on the system and now it is failing. You don't hear a single official in Louisiana talking about bringing industry and jobs into Louisiana and, the future is even more competitive. We continue to elect self-licking ice cream cones.

Oh yea. Since we’re all getting a little pay raise in February time frame due to the tax cut. You can bet your ass the state will come up with a way to get that money for themselves. So don’t run out and buy a new boat just yet.

I got a 2% raise in my SS income. Unfortunately I got a $20 increase in my Medicare. One offsets the other so I'm no richer.
