    Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about dipping my toes into the AR10 waters, and I'm looking for a rifle at a reasonable price. I know it's easy to hit $2K+ with these guns, but this will just be a range toy for me and I'd like to stay in the three digit price range.

One obvious choice is the Smith & Wesson M&P10 Sport. Bud's lists it for $867, which seems like a reasonable entry point for me. I know that DPMS and Bushmaster also have a few rifles in this rough price range, but I don't know enough about them to give them serious consideration.

So ... any thoughts or opinions?

Probably the best ar10 from the factory under 1k. Sure you can build a psa one for cheaper but read online of the horror stories of getting it running. They do use a proprietary gas length

No opinion on the M&P, but I’m one of the seemingly few that has no issue with my PSA .308. It was cheap and it kicks ass. Nearly 1000 rds thru it without problems.

Thanks guys. I’ll look at DPMS and PSA. Not looking to build a gun; I’ve got enough projects right now.

Be careful on the magazines. Sometimes the different flavors of AR-10's use proprietary mags. I have to be modify M14 mags for my Armalite (or pay a fortune).

Noted Doug. Thanks. In my AR I run Magpul PMAGs pretty exclusively; are they not also the standard for AR10?

By the way, my comment earlier about not wanting to build a gun wasn't a dig against people that do. At some point I'll try building an AR platform gun and would enjoy the challenge ... it's just not something I have the time or attention span to take on right now. I'd rather get something prebuilt, so I can find out if AR10 is a platform I'll enjoy or not.

I would stick with DPMS/Sr25 pattern mags/gun. There are enough inconsistencies in the 308s already. Those are good to go.

I concur. Unfortunately my rifle doesn't.

I have had my S&W for about 4 years and love it. No issues at all.
