I’ve been intrigued by upgrading my carry weapon to a .45. I’ve heard some good and bad about a few make/models in the caliber. Can anyone offer advice/experiences with theirs? Thanks in advance.

If you are 100% sure you can hit what you are aiming at in a high stress, unpredictable situation then carry a more effective round. (.45acp) If you are not 100% sure (is anybody ever really sure?) then Id go for more possibilities/chances with a plenty capable round.(9mm) Every extra round is a potential chance at life.

This is not a professional opinion.

.45 ACP defensive ammunition ballistics do not outweight the lesser capacity and increased recoil when compared to 9mm handgun with similar defensive ammunition.

But if you want a fawty five, get a Glock 21 and be done.

    I carry a 9mm And at times 3" 1911 Kimber in 45acp
My dad when he was alive was an old guy, who said, He had a mag with 7 rounds of 230 ball, If that was not enough it was his time to go. Reminded me of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. But with a beard

I swap them up depending on dress code, attitude, and weather....

Prob my favorite is glock19 with a close second glock 30s and then Dan Wesson cco, and the glock 23 was once my edc for 8+ years and now is last... Idk why really lol

    Glock 23 gen3 .40 13+1 w/milt sparks criterion
    Glock 19 gen4 9mm 15+1 w/milt sparks criterion
    Glock 30S .45acp 10+1 w/milt sparks criterion
Dan Wesson CCO .45acp 7+1 w/milt sparks criterion

Was mostly kidding about the Glock's. That Dan Wesson CCO is a fine pistol

Like my Kimber 3", but depending on dress code, will carry a Taurus PT111 or a S&W 642
Everything is weather dependent. Won't bad .outh Glocks, just never owned one. The Taurus is the only 'black' pistol I own. Just like the 1911 style

I have a Springfield XDs .45. Only 6 rounds, but its so small that printing is not an issue.

not counting the dozen 1911s my .45ACP guns are HK .45C, Sig 220, these two are the most carried, HDs .45, Shield .45 and probably left a couple out.

If you are a high round count shooter the HK and Sig are known to be more reliable and need less maintenance than 1911 pistols.

    Glock G30SF - 10 + 1 - Minimal Recoil using +P 185gr DPX - More than adequate for CQC

    Glock 21SF - 13 + 1 - Occasional Carry same Holster - (1075 fps** - 475ftlbs** - G21 Specs**)

    Works for me.

Being very proficient with what you carry is as important as to what you carry. Whatever you carry, learn how to use it, practice often & keep it in good working order.

Here is a Kimber 3" 45acp hiding under a Walter PPK/s To be fair the Walther would have been the same size with a flush magazine
