Who here actually carries a light more than 95% of the time? What do you carry?

Nationwide I would say less than 1% carry a pistol with a light at all times and that would include all LEO's.

I carry a light 90% of the time. For years I carried a Surefire E2D Defender. Recently I downsized to a tiny little Streamlight MicroStream. It's so tiny and light that I often forget I even have it.

You will get more positive reports on a firearms forum which is likely to represent less than 1% of the population.

I carry one every day and I have since about 2010. I had a streamlight pt1l and within the last year or so I upgraded to a streamlight protac 2l-x.

When I went through the academy, we were not allowed to carry a wml on our pistols. When someone asked why not, we were told they didn't want an officer to not have a charge for/not have a/forget his handheld flashlight and start waving his pistol (with wml) around to direct traffic. I kept a Streamlight TLR-1 in my patrol bag, right where it would be of no use in a SHTF situation. But I'd grab it when we had to clear buildings on alarm calls. By the time the "no wml" rule was starting to be enforced, I had gone to the detective unit and carried a Glock 27.

I eventually changed holsters after some off-hand draw training. It's a pain to off-hand draw with a Safariland Raptor. I'd have changed holsters sooner but I hadn't made the time to unlearn the old draw technique and learn the new one. But I finally did and have a weapon light version of the new holster set to be delivered in a couple of days.

Nice light there. I carried a 2L-X from a few weeks after it was released until about 2 months ago. I have since upgraded to a Nitecore P12 and LOVE it.

This weekend I participated in a 2 day room clearing force on force class and (re)learned the importance of a bright ass flashlight. @Those carrying lights under 400 lumens - I highly suggest getting something brighter if you ever may have to clear a house or engage a threat that is outdoors where the light will quickly disperse.

Too many LEO in the past used the light on their pistol at night to look in vehicles often pointing the pistol at occupants. Yes drawing/loading/firing from a triple retention duty holster with dominant hand only and then non dominant hand only is tough. I worked nights for years long ago and never used a WML.

I've had a Jetbeam BC 10 in my left front pocket for the last 3 years. Bought it on a recommendation from someone here on the forum. (Must have been beauxdog from the looks of it) It gets hot and is hard on batteries, but I'll wait until it dies before I upgrade.

I've done only a little night work as part of a VATA class and the light held its own. Truth is that I carry it as it comes in handy looking for things in dark spots, walking back from the deer stand, etc., more than I ever expect to utilize it in a fight. Same for the Kershaw Leek in the opposite side pocket. Not a fighting knife, but like the light I hardly know it's there...

But you also have to be careful with the really bright lights in a house. If you've ever turned the corner and been facing a mirror of some sort, like in the back of a china cabinet, you may want to make sure you have a good balance of wide pattern and brightness.
