A total of 500 rounds fired with zero issues, 400 FMJ and 100 JHP. If you have an issue assess, clean, lube and start over.

Now this is just me. I think it really depends on the firearm. Now all I have are Glocks and Springer 1911's.

My Glocks, I'll run between 100/200 of my reloads, then a box or 2 of the defense ammo i carry. If I don't have any issues in those 200 / 300 rds then onto my hip it goes.

Now my Springer 1911's, it's usually 500+ rds. A couple boxes of factory off the shelf ammo, then onto my reloads, then a couple boxes of defense ammo carry. Then onto my hip it goes.

Typically 750 to 1000. My most recent addition to my carry lineup likely cycled 1500 rounds before I decided to carry it.

I carry a Glock. No need to break it in. Why would you want to carry a pistol with 1k rounds through it? Most pistols after 1k rounds they are worn out. I like to carry a brand new one to ensure it works. Why is it almost every gun for sale says only test fired or less than 500 rounds through it? Lol just joking. I like to run a class with the one that is going into the carry rotation before I trust it. Depending on the class 400+ rounds of brass and steel.

Lol! You got me. I was already preparing to reply to the *wore out at 1000 rounds* part. Good one!

I voted 3-400. 400 is usually my minimum, with 50-75 of those being my carry ammo. If there is any kind of malfunction, the round count starts over.

Just curious if you have a rule about how many rounds you will put through your carry gun before you put it in to carry duty.

I typically run 500-600 rounds of FMJ and then I proceed to cycle my defensive ammo. 20rd boxes typically cut the mustard. I like to shoot a mag from each new box because over the years I have found ammo to seldom be consistent. I also try to buy from the same lot so I can expect similar results.

for me it depends on the weapon HKs, Glock or S&W MPs, 50 to 100 rounds, Sig Sauer, 100 to 300 rounds, a new 1911, 500 to a 1,000 + rounds, just because I like shooting 1911s :)

My general rule is 1000. 700 range rounds and 300 of what I carry. There are a few exceptions to this rule. My Seecamp has seen far fewer rounds, but I really don't carry it anymore. Also, I haven't put this many rounds through my airweight revolvers. No need to subject them to the wear and tear. I'm much more confident in the function of a revolver, anyway. I guess it comes down to what you feel comfortable with.

I've seen two fail in one day.

Both were Taurus, and looked like Model 82's.

I do not remember if they were 82 or 85 but they were made by Taurus.
When I was shooting Colt, S&W, Ruger revolvers before switching to semi auto pistols I never had one fail and I shot them a lot.

Like machinedrummer said, 500+ rounds preferably at a class before I’d trust something to carry. Not gonna lie though, I’ve carried brand new Glocks (albeit degreased and lubed) a few times and wasn’t even skurred.
