I have never used Hodgdon powder but I have 2 pounds of HP-38 (WW 231) powder. I see 44 mag loads with a 240 GR LSWC from the Hodgdon site for Min 5.5 Grs to a Max 11.0 Grs. Anyone have any experience or preference on this load?
I also have several pounds of Unique and Bullseye powder.

I use 8gr HP38 under a 240gr Sierra JHC for a plinker at just under 1000fps out of my Redhawk. H110 for magnums.

My plinking load is 240gr hard cast with 18 grains of 2400. Shoots very well in my wifes 629!!

24 gr of H110 backing a 240gr pill with #350 CCI primers and a heavy crimp works very well in my desert eagles. They require true magnum ammo and this load works great. Maybe HighStandard will chime in. I think I stole that load from him.
If you wanna use up that unique, 12gr will push a 240 jacketed bullet at about 1200fps all day long.

I did try 231 in my 44 Mag. I found that the accuracy fell short of my expectations. You must consider that accuracy is relative. 231 did not come close to the accuracy that I could achieve with 296/H110. I have never considered the 44 Mag to be a plinking gun, though.

I use that same load of 24 grains of WW296/H-110 listed above with 240 grain But is a real hunting load.
If I want something more pleasant I use Unique with Jacketed.
The best range is Unique and my self-cast 215-grain bullets

A while back I was reloading .44 Mag for a friend using Unique. He picked up a Desert Eagle and while my loads were accurate they absolutely would not cycle. Then I realized the "Sand Buzzard" was gas operated! I switched to IMR-4227 and it ate everything.
