    RPR Rimfire

Got another 22, the Ruger RPR rimfire. Will be testing a wide variety of ammo, so far it really likes a couple types and really dislikes quite a few.

    Groups

Went and shot 15 types of 22lr this weekend, will do more later.

The RPR rimfire loves Fed gold metal Ultra match and Fed gold metal Match.
50 YD 5 shot groups from .387 to .198( the best of the day was Fed gold metal Match).

Fed gold metal target, CCI std vel, CCI sgb, Wolf match target, PMC moderator, Geco 22 sa, CCI suppressor, Norma Tac 22, RWS target rifle, CCI green tag, Fed auto match, Magtech 22 sv. American eagle suppressor all shot 3/4 to over 1 inch.

The wind picked up and could not do any 100 yd groups.

Picked up some different Eley ammo this weekend to try later.

This rifle will shoot, you just have to find out what it likes

Try those groups at 100 yards for a true test of what ammo is best. Some ammo will shoot great at 50 and then fall apart beyond that.

I’d agree but he’s shooting subsonic loads. Not that they are spent before 100 yards but 50 is more the range.
My squirrel guns get the zero at 150 feet as well. I can still hit golf balls at 100 but the BDC dial or reticle hash marks come into play after 50.
Contrary to popular belief, a head shot is not necessarily a guaranteed kill shot....but it sure does take the fight out of 'em.

and if one in every 100,000,000 M&M's contained enough cyanide to kill a person, the Mars candy company would be forced by public outcry to correct it———

Very cool gun and good shooting! I have the American Rimfire and it's one of my favorites suppressed with subsonics, it is just silly.

Rock out with your Glock out.

I shoot handguns out to 100 yards and use exclusively subsonic. Both rifle and handgun silhouette is shot out to 100 and most use subs. I also squirrel hunt with subsonic and often take shots past 50.

Additionally, subsonic ammo is usually more accurate at 100 yards than high velocity ammo. When a hypersonic bullet makes the transitional to subsonic, the resulting turbulence upsets the bullet somewhat and negatively affects accuracy. With high velocity ammo this happens between 50 & 100 yards.

    Again, I’d agree but..
I understand why the OP is sighting in at 50. I don’t know how to disagree, just trying to find a way to agree. I understand ballistics and the physics but preach on. I was thinking more in simple terms. I know I can dink a squirrel with a nice head shot at 100 with either of these rifles. But the difference in bullet impact between 0-50 yards and 100 yards is enough to keep me zero’d closer to the range I will hunt or shoot regularly. Not saying x bullet is more or less accurate that y or z bullet. Have we talked about twist rates yet?

That being said, the Wolf gold has generally been the most accurate for me. I do have one rifle that really likes the Aguila 60gr subs. CCI standard vel is usually quite accurate for the money.

Nice rifle there and also the OPs. By the way, how goes it Magdump. Hope all is well. 99.9% of all my rimfire shooting is at the little steel critters. I know that that game is not for everyone. I have settled on SK Standard Plus (same as Wolf Match Target) for most of my needs. A couple of years ago I decided to kick my game up and tried some Eley Edge which is one of their EPS offerings. It did group slightly better than the SK and did allow me to achieve my best score to date but I have since settled back into the SK ammo (budgetary concerns). I have done some limited shooting with the SK Std out to 200 yards and it will surprise you.

Back to the OP. Nice rig. Enjoy.

Thanks for that SK info High Standard. I never knew that was same as wolf. I know I seem to find it more often. I bought a few bricks of Wolf match about a year before the freak out but it won’t last me forever.
200 yards on a clear calm day is about my max for cotton tails in the food plot, but I can’t guarantee a head shot.
