I am looking for a barrel for an ar10 that will work with .308 and 7.62, I have been looking at several manufactures barrels and not seeing anything that shows that both will work in the same barrel. I have only seen 1 that was marked 7.62 and all others are marked .308. Please educate me

There are a few barrels chambered in 7.62x51, but most are .308. Reason being is that most AR-10's are shooting commercial .308. If you don't plan to shoot 7.62x51, just get a barrel chambered in .308.

The case length is slightly different between the two, so know what you're getting into.

From what I understand the 308 issue is the opposite of 5.56/223. such that all 5.56 chambers can shoot all 223 but 223 cannot fire 5.56. Where for 308 it is the other way around. 308WIN can fire 308 and 7.62 but 7.62 cannot fire 308WIN.

Google seems to support this argument.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Looks like .308 is the way to go which is what I was unsure of. Now to find a 20 inch barrel that will give me some accuracy.

BTW: does anyone make a MagPul BAD lever knockoff that fits and works on an AR10. I tried a test fit of one of my BAD levers off of an AR15 and it does not work.

there is no difference between a .308 and the 7.62 NATO except in the twist maybe. The groove diameter is .308. If a barrel is marked 7.62 the grove diameter will be .310. 2 thousands bigger.

ordered a 20" Ballistic Advantage Premium series SS heavy profile barrel plus a melonite gas tube from Monmouth Reloaders a couple nights ago. Yesterday a nephew stopped by Cabala's in Gonzalas on the way home from work and picked up a Seekins adjustable gas block for me.

Now to decide on a handguard. I have Midwest Industries on 2 other rifles but I want something with a different profile on the muzzle end for this one other than just a straight cut

I got a PSA PA-10 in 308WIN with an 18" stainless barrel a bit ago. Am putting a Seekins Adj gas block, Saker 7.62 Quick attach muzzle break and a Primary Arms 1-6x scope with ACSS 308 reticle on it when I get a chance. I got it and then stuff around the hosue went crazy and haven't had time to get it ready and go shoot.
