Raceland is a bit far from our club in the Lafayette area, so I'd look at EAPS in Gonzales as they're closer to you.
When I was new to USPSA (about 10or so years ago), EAPS made me feel very comfortable and welcomed to the sport, their club, and the range. They were (and I have no doubt still are) great people and very helpful/supportive. That attitude is what I try to emulate when I'm at our matches in Youngsville.
Now, we have the Lafayette Practical Shooters (proud to be a charter member) and we are very open to new shooters. Like I said, it's a bit of a trip from Raceland, but the invitation is open any time.
Bring an open mind, your eye/ear protection, a pistol, ammo, 4-5 mags, a good belt, a good holster, and some mag pouches. Some people have spare rigs that they may loan out as well. Go dressed comfortably with good shoes. You may decide to just watch a first match, that's ok too. Be sure to pay close attention during the safety brief and new shooter brief.
