Am I reading this right? The newly proposed law will make it where you can own one but you can’t *conceal* it. Anyone carrying a knife in the pocket would still be outside the law.

    Part of the amended HB200

Proposed law removes from present law the prohibition on the manufacture, ownership, possession, custody, or use of any switchblade knife, spring knife, or other knife or similar instrument having a blade which may be automatically unfolded or extended from a handle by the manipulation of a button, switch, latch, or similar contrivance located on the handle.
Proposed law prohibits the intentional concealment of such knives.
Proposed law retains the present law exception to this offense for any knife that may be opened with one hand by manual pressure applied to the blade or any projection of the blade and certain knives that may be opened by means of inertia produced by the hand, wrist, or other movement.
Proposed law repeals the present law exception for rescue knives sold to or owned, carried, or possessed by law enforcement and the exception for merchants who own or possess the knives as inventory to be offered for sale to law enforcement officers.

Correct, it's a reasonably large step in the right direction, but they had to compromise with sheriff's association and state police. Their site mentions this and also mentions something to the effect that it would require changes to concealed carry law to fix this.

two things--1) curious about those who bring guns to a knife fight worried about how the knife is presented, and 2)who suggested tampering w/ CCL to fix a knife problem? Seems a little risky to advocate messing around w/ a law that has been hard to come by. Have noticed most opposition to CC nationwide is by State Police, plus some locals like the famous scott israel of Fla.

So who is going to be the test case for *intentionally concealed* when just a clip and tip is showing?

If you get charged with intentional concealment of a knife with a pocket clip, you probably just got arrested for something else and that charge was tacked on.

I agree. Besides, the way I understand it is most LEO aren't that concerned if you carry a switchblade or not. This just makes it sort of legal.

Bottom line to getting charged with an illegal concealed weapon of any kind is:

    1) you're getting charged with something else and they searched you, so you already screwed up, or
    2) you didn't conceal it very well, dummy...

The only thing you can legally conceal in Louisiana is a handgun (not a pistol) with a valid CHP. Everything else falls under LRS 14:95. However, no one cares about the Swiss Army Knife in your pocket or the folding knife clipped TO your pocket.

Knives clipped to your pocket are not concealed.
