And THIS guy and his wife are BOTH retired Army Majors (there is a reason we can't win wars these days)

Accounts are that neighbors heard many fired (PPSO says 41). AND now his "entourage" is all up in arms because he was just "protecting his property" --

A military officer making these kind of bonehead decisions and his wife (also a military officer) defending his actions.....just WOW.

Someone please explain the racial aspect of this situation. Who is of color and why does it matter?

"I do believe that there is a huge gap between what I see as a person of color in a community, compared to what a leader in a sheriff's position is providing, but that can be fixed," Tracy Riley said.

Only when it is fixed does Tracy Riley believe that the healing process can begin.

See this^. It is the continuous demise of the USA in action.

This is the way this news reporter should have handled this:

Reporter: So do you think the Sheriff answered your concerns in this matter?

    T. Riley: >Insert nonsense quoted above.<

Reporter: What does that mean, exactly; and what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

    :wtc: We are doomed!

Why would you fire warning shots at a vehicle coming down the driveway? they didn't get out and show aggression so instead of preemptively shooting he should have waited to see what happened.

I think the homeowners were people of color so they are saying that is why he got hauled into the sheriff's office.

Because EVERYTHING is about racism now and when that is worn out it is "white privilege" -- However it is being used so much it is losing it's meaning. Ever hear about the little boy who cried wolf??!!!

The army major and his wife apparently believe that if a white man had fired 40 rounds into his own backyard, he would not have been arrested.

Is it illegal in Belle Chasse to discharge a firearm on your own property?

So I can assume the sheriff is white and the shooter is an oppressed person of color? I wonder if casinos will ever put race cards in the deck? Automatic winner!!

The Sheriff is white and the Riley’s are black. It usually depends where in Plaquemines Parish if they will harass you or not for firing a gun. In Belle Chasse they will every time. The Sheriff is a good guy but this is some stupid **** and he should have went to jail. Guess their life was in danger from a car in their drive way. When your not white and something happens that you don’t agree with, then it is racist.

Every now and then I bust a few caps out the front door just to let everyone know I'm watchin', keep 'em on their toes and such.;)

This dude's retirement must have been filed on an ID10-T form! And playing the race card into this is just SO pathetic. I bet that Verizon worker switches to indoor sales!

Many years back I briefly worked for a security guard company that had an account at a lumber yard up in Folsom, and the old widow who owned the place lived a short way down the highway. Even knowing she had a paid, armed security guard on site, if she saw what she thought was something suspicious going on around her place at night, she would step out her front door and fire of a random shot just in case. Thankfully, they never asked me to work that post, and my buddy who did only did once.

my mom lives in the very back edge of the neighborhood across from engineers rd with her backyard on the levee for the inter-coastal canal. I discharge firearms often shooting the coyote(s) that run the levee at night to keep them from eating my moms pet chihuaha. Had to answer to PPSO 1 time. When the officer saw the dead coyote on the ground in my yard, and realized it hadn't been moved and that was where i shot it, he said have a nice night and left. Have never had to answer to them since.

Thanks for taking out the yote'!! A 1 or 2 shot incident for a varmint will not produce charges 99.99% of the time.....41 shots to warn someone is just a real BAD decision by Mr.Riley's.....what an idiot.....these are the people that need a Felony arrest and their guns taken.

Rifles and pistols yes...shotguns are allowed outside of the city limits. From what I have been told by LEO.

I think shooting one's AR 41 times under uncertain conditions is bad judgement, but I don't think it should be criminally so since he wasn't shooting at anyone. A misdemeanor and a fine, sure, but not a felony. The man probably panicked. Being a vet doesn't always mean "combat vet". He may have spent his entire military career pushing papers in the Personnel Corps. I applaud him for having the stones to protect his family and property; he just went about it in the wrong way. Fortunately, no one got hurt.

The race card is like a snake's rattle; its a warning to the police that if they pursue this further, the Riley's will claim racial discrimination. It has been effective in keeping real criminals from prosecution in the past, so it may very well work for these people (who are not really criminals). Often the best defense is a good offense. If you got an Ace like the race card, why not use it when you feel threatened? In this case, it will work better than using the AR. Lol

Because justification of constant use of the "Race card" when not warranted is tantamount to a woman yelling 'Rape" after consensual sex.
