I went to pick up my new 686-6, 6" today after the California 10 day wait and could not get (out of the box) the cylinder to open by pushing the release all the way forward, unless pressure was place against the right side and a little pressure was released from the release button.

    What would cause this?

I had a choice of taking it and then have to deal with sending it back to S&W and waiting for it to be fixed, even though it was new, taking a display model or waiting another day for a new one.
I did not take it home but will have another new one tomorrow.
Kind of scares me as it is an addition to my Dad's inherited 1980 Model 19, with thousands of rounds through it, that split a barrel the first time I ran .357's through it, causing me to go on a long search for a used barrel and have a gunsmith install it.

I have a few semi-autos (Glock, Sig, 1911, & Beretta) that have had not problems and have over the past year gotten into revolvers.
