I just got a BFR 30-30 20" revolver and it's fun to shoot with mild recoil. I may put a scope on it or red dot.
I'd like to get another one in 45-70 but already have a Smith 460XVR but that probably won't stop me.
Here is a pic of mine.

I hunted a couple of times with a guy that had one in 45-70. He carried a Marlin lever action 45-70 also. Ain't nothing I want to kill bad enough that I would shoot it with a 45-70 handgun.

All ammo and firearms can and will produce slightly different results. These are actual numbers for specific revolvers, but they are representative of all BFR revolvers.

The 45-70 basically duplicates 454 performance at half or less pressure but can be pushed well over the 454 performance figures.

My largest revolver is a S&W model 57 .41 mag. with an 8" barrel. I hunt white tail deer with a Contender in .35 Remington. My .35 has a 14" barrel and I usually use a rest. With that 20" barrel you must have a lot stronger wrists and arms than I do. Dave

The BFR has a 10" barrel. I shoot a 357 Max in a 15" Encore and have a MGM 45-70 12" barrel coming. These large pistols usually do require a rest to shoot accurately when hunting.

I reload my 357 Max with Jamison brass but Starline has brass too. I load 360 Dan Wesson for my H&R 357 Magnum rifle as it has along throat. 357 magnum dies will load all 3 after adjusting them out. I'm loading 180gr XTP bullets in it and took a doe with the H&R rifle last year with it. She ran maybe 30 yards after a 75 yard shot.
You might also try Reed's ammo for 357 Max. You can shoot 357 Magnum in it also.

I have never shot a BFR, but I own this MIL Industries Thunder Five in 45-70 and dude what a gun. I have never been to the range when I didn’t make new friends. It brings a smile to my face watching guys shoot it for the first time ( and usually the last, lol). It is by far the coolest guilty pleasure gun I own. Not practical for almost anything, but man is it a blast. I wouldn’t hasitate to pick up the BFR in 45-70. Be prepared to answer WTF is that!

Cool thread. I don't own one, but I might like to.

Jack Huntington did a custom build off of a BFR in .50 Alaskan..... Look that caliber up and think of how fun that might be. ;)

The BFR 30-30 has mild recoil and shoots really well. I'll probably put a scope on it since I'm limited to around 50 yards with open sights due to near sightedness. I loaded some Hornady 125gr SP in it and plan to try the Barnes 110gr TTSX bullets for the 300 blackout in it. I think I can get close to similar velocities as the Barnes ammo for the 300 BO in a 16" barrel out of this 10" tube.
I'll be loading 150gr-170gr bullets in it also.
