I'm looking to get a scope for a 10/22 Takedown. Because it's a takedown, I'm interested in a scope that's not too long. After a bit of looking around, a number of people seem to like the UTG 3-9X32 1" BugBuster Scope. The scope seems to be pretty compact and won't add too much additional length to the receiver portion of the rifle. Because of various reasons, I'd like to keep the cost of the scope under $100. Because this rifle will mostly be used under 50 yards, I've even considered a 1-4x scope like the Center Point 1-4x20 mm AR Rifle Scope. I realize those are 2 completely different scopes but I'm still not sure where I'd like to go with this so I'm starting this to get some thoughts from people who may have put a 1-4x scope on their 10/22 or may have used the BugBuster. Or who may have some other positive suggestions.

After reading the first sentence, I was going to reply about the BugBuster. I've never used it, but read reviews and that's the first thing I thought of. I did think of a few others

    1. Barska makes a compact 4x32 scope for $40
    2. Simmons Handgun scopes are short $50
    3. Knock off ACOG like AIM Sports or something $70

Variable and low profile seems to be kinda tough to mix. I was looking around and around and I came across a Lucid HD7 red dot with a removable screw on 2x magnifier. Still a little more but it could be a compact, low profile, semi modular for you.

I bought a 10/22 breakdown as Doorbuster special at Cabela's the year they came out. It was limited to the 1st 15-20 through the door. So was so cheap I had to get it.
I later got a cheapo scope kinda like I have that came on my Sigg 522. Just a simple 4-5 red and 4-5 green dots. It was one of them was 80-100 marked down to $20.00 deals. Center point 72601
It was good enough t use on the 522 so it one "kinda" like it.
The biggest thing was I wanted to still be able to use the Ruger Bag.
That leaves me to wonder what wood brake down stocks will also fit in that bag.

Have you put anything on it? I’m curious to know how well it holds a zero after takedown cycles.

Not yet. I just picked it up today. I'm at a rodeo tonight so I'll probably look at it this weekend. I have a small 4x Millet scope that served me well on an issue weapon during a deployment. If I have some rings that fit that scope, I'll probably start off with that one.

But once I get the permanent scope I'll try to remember to give a long term report.

So how did it work out. Not sure how all take downs are but mine stays on after taken apart and re assembled. I have read that the tolerance close on most and take downs have no problems with scopes.

I haven't picked it up yet. I had a Millett 4x laying around that's on it for now.

    I have a older redfield widefield 4x ruger 10/22 scope .
I find the scope works perfectly , and I am running full power smokeless loads through it .

the only issue I have had wasn't with the scope but where the stock meets the rear portion of the action , it would pound out the stock causing it to crack . then when fixed and bedded , it would pound out the bedding compound . finally bedded it with 3m panel bond adhesive and all is good .

Not sure if Monstrum tactical is below your brand name threshold but I like the 2 I have for less than $60 delivered. Reticle is black when off. Amazon carries a full line of Monstrum optics and I’ve been pleased with the 3 models I’ve purchased.
Otherwise I’d recommend the Simmons 4x32 pro diamond reticle shotgun scope for the same price. Compact size, tough as hell.

Nope, they're not below my threshold for range toys as long as they seem to be favorably reviewed. A few of the Monstrum Tactical don't look too bad. I picked up a UTG Bug Buster when Amazon had it on sale. But that project is on hold for a short while while I wait for a Gemtech Mist TD barrel to be released from incarceration. Then I have to decide if I want a Hunter X-22 TD stock or an X-22 Backpacker stock. It seems to boil down to bipod mount vs storage. And having a 10/22 on a Hunter X-22 stock with a bipod, I think I'm leaning more toward packability and the Backpacker stock.

Had the same problem. My Ruger 44 mag. did not have the bolt that goes through the stock and screws into the tang. Pull the butt plate and see if you have the bolt or not. About 10K were sold without the bolt. Will continue to split until secured from recoil with this bolt.
