I have depleted some of my stash so will have to start casting again soon.
I do not get leaks like some Brands. But do get some on the base at times.
For years I did a simple aluminum foil.
But as I got it out to cast I figured I should try and do better. So put some 3/8" 6061 on the base.
Simple notches that are rounded that fits snug.

That'll work. I just always keep an ingot mold under the mold while casting. It catches any inadvertent spills. I use an RCBS ProMelt and I don't have the "drip" problem either.

I have some molds that are to large to stick a ingot mold under the mold guide. I was for some time mold crazy. Got stupid buying them to the point I have a collection.

I see your point about room under the mold guide. I have a good bit more room under my ProMelt...it sits higher. I've got about 20 molds right now from 22 through 50 caliber. I sold off a few a couple of years ago, but I have my eyes on 2 or 3 more to add soon.

I, too, use a Lee drip-o-matic. I keep an ingot mold under the spout. The lead goes right back into the pot. Not a big deal.

Your Lyman furnace looks good though.

Well, I was ill so no heavy work. And used up all my 9mm and 45 Colt and 45acp cast. Loading ammo since I could sit and do it when able.
My friend used to sell lots and lots of rims and tires. So free lead. My son worked 4 years doing rim repairs so again free lead. But he no longer does that. And Steel and Zinc at the friend's place and little sales keeps me from really adding stock from his place.
I am now sitting at maybe half a ton of ingots, and 70 pounds of Linotype.
I do have a few molds I am itching to use. This steel 45 Lyman Clone made in Europe And a 32acp For the 7.62x25
Thinking of putting some red or green plastic balls in the 45 HP's hole and then flattening them out. Just a few. I saw someone long time back did a few 38's or 40's like that. I have no idea how they shot.
I also have a very old mint 356404 I want to cast for 9mm revolver Or very light 9mm handgun

I stopped casting when my son was born. Had to do it in the house and didn't want him breathing the fumes or getting burned. When I realized GAT Bullets just down the road sold cast bullets for less than $100 a thousand, I never started back. I even sold all my casting supplies.

You can save some money with casting your own, these days its getting harder to source the lead.
I see casting as an extension to the hobby, do it because its enjoyable.
I save the most money in casting my own large weights for offshore fishing.

Whats a 16 oz. lead weight running nowadays?

$1.10- $1.20 to my door. that is range lead, or tire weight ingots. But My son works in a wheel repair shop that also sells tires. They repair rims weld/ make small parts of them in aluminum {sand polish and machine and a lathe then paint or clear} What ever it takes new outter etc.
Si I get 1st dibbs on the buckets.
