Building another 10/22, shooting subs with a suppressor mostly.

What is the optimum barrel length, I have 22's in 16 and 22 inch but I'm thinking 18-20" for this one.

What stocks and barrels do most prefer.

I cobbled this one together as a nighttime critter getter.

Why 18-20? What are you trying to 'optimize'? accuracy, weight, quietness?
I'd keep it at 16", short as possible without any legal complications. Shorter is going to be stiffer and therefore more accurate. Adding a can adds length, so starting short is good I think.

If you are shooting subs, you are not worried about velocity at all. Maybe a longer barrel would be quieter, but probably not enough to make any real difference. If you want to go very short, about 4", nearly all of your bulk-pack ammo is going to stay subsonic, which opens up ammo availability.

I have an 22lr AR with a 4" a barrel which is great fun for shooting fast. And a 16" rifle which is great for a precision trainer. For the 16" barrels, I really like the 'bull barrel' sleeved aluminum type. Saves on weight, looks great, very accurate. Barrels from Kidd are excellent. Also check out whistle pig, fedderson, green mountain. Mine was a magnum research barrel I caught a deal on. Works great.

I also really like my Boyd's Tacticool stock.

I meant to post the deal I saw on the SR 10/22 kit at Brownells which was about half price. I usually try to make you guys aware when I find a good deal. I like the feel way better than any other setup I’ve tried. True quality setup, aluminum receiver housing and free float fore end, mil spec buffer tube. It comes with rail sections, MBUS style flip up sights as good as Magpul. I decided on a different stock but actually liked the grip better than any other that I had. With a BX trigger and a mini 4x scope it passed the golf ball test at over 50 yards, so I’ll add it to my squirrel gun cabinet.
