yeah and if you choose the speer gold dot 9mm 124 gr load, versus .40 180 GD load, the 40 represents a 13% increase in available energy vs the 9mm load. Or maybe a 15% increase in recoil, in identical handguns.

Depends entirely on which round/load you choose to compare. Bottom line is if .40 s&w is too much for u to handle, to shoot proficiently in any situation, choose what works well for you.

Your cherry picking results in a 15% difference. If someone cherry picked a 165gr. and a 147gr. the difference would be 26%.
Compare medium to medium and heavy to heavy for a fair comparison.
I use 124+P HST for carry and 124 AE for range.

I owned it for about a year and it was in my carry rotation with a Glock 29 and a S&W 60 J frame .357. It was awesome, until I took the NRA Personal Protection in the home instructors course. The recoil was too snappy. My hand was shaking. I had to switch to the 10mm. Lol, I know, I couldn’t believe it. It is great to conceal carry. For the range, for me it was not good. My groups opened up way to much for my taste. And again I frequently carry 10mm and .357.

I have the 9, 40, and 45 Shield. I like them all. If your going to carry it then run some rounds through it until it feels comfortable. They each have a different feel but are great every day carry guns.
