Put some final touches on the range today. So far, I've cleared a 30 x 250 yard cut backed by miles of uninhabited bayou.
Current features:
....6" pistol plate at 7 yards
....silhouettes, spinners, plates at varying ranges from 20-75 yards
....plates at 100 yards
....purged propane tank (rimfire only) and plates at 200 yards
Next phase (spring 2019)
....extend range to 450 yards with accompanying targets at 300 & 400 yards
....add run-n-gun features
....set silouhettes to 40,60,77, & 100 yards per NRA Silhoutte rules.
....add 200 yard 16" gong
....add weather sock and wind flags with yardage markers ever 50 yards.
Tips / lessons learned:
....buy high quality AR-500 or better targets from a trusted seller. They are worth every penny.
....T-posts and wire tied 5/8" rebar make excellent target stands. The first one I made has seen thousands of rounds of .22lr thru .308win without a trace of damage. Cost per? Only $11
.... after trying several brands of paint, I swear by Rustoleum 2x paint & primer. This stuff covers like crazy and is completely opaque.
