So, like many good builds I’ve done in the past, I wound up with this extra barrel nut just laying around...
Actually, I bought a upper and free floater from a member and the barrel nut came with it. Anyway, the dang nut needed a 34mm wrench... dang.

The jaws on my crescent wrench (my daddy calls it a Mexican speed wrench but told me never to call it that on the count of this day and age) are too fat to fit in the allotted space and my biggest box end is inch and a quarter... and how ya gonna torque that barrel to spec anyway? Well lemme tell ya. I figured it out. I just sent Jr out to the shed to fetch the BBW. That’s right, the Big Barrel nut Wrench...

And got her done we did. So next time one of you guys are putting together a new AR-08 or other AR with an oversized nut, don’t use a pipe wrench for Jake’s sake. Get a BBW and get that puppy built right.

    I like BBW's. Lol
Good work. A little over kill maybe? I would have used my Bubba Pro Precision Vise Grips.

And your rifle would be out of spec sir. Go get you a BBW!
I think everyone who builds rifles needs a BBW...

Borrowed one of them last year from the Auto Zone in Ponchatoula to install the barrel nut that came with the rail my nephew bought at a gunshow. I didnt know that tool existed, we stopped in to see if they had something on the shelf after looking a few other places. Got to talking with the manager and when I said a big long socket his eyes got wide and said," I got an idea" disappeared in the back and came out with a brand new one. That is the ticket for them odd ball barrel nuts.

I know I posted about it somewhere but I cannot seem to find it. It is possible that it was before I found this forum and it is on one of the 3 other forums I frequent. Will try to do better in the future.

Lol, good deal. I’m just surprised I’m not the first to go that route.

Yea I know I posted about it because I gave the name of the tool in the post. But your post is so much better because you added pictures to show the tool and how it worked. Atleast you actually have one and did not spend 2 hours going to Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight, Sears then Auto Zone before getting lucky cuz you got to talking with the manager and made a remark about a 2 foot deep socket. When I said that the lightbulb turned on.
Anyway, your post will obviously help more people than mine will.

Stanley make a black and yellow adj wrench that has slimmer jaws than normal. Picked the 10 inch model up at Wally world for less than 20 bucks. Gets used all the time for oddball barrel nuts and flash hiders. Much easier to tote around than a bbw...

However that BBw would be handy if you have to change an inner tie rod on a steering rack.
