Hit the cane fields this morning to cut the cane for our first batch of the year. The weather is perfect for syrup making so it should be a good day. We had the whole crew out today so it didn’t take long to fill the cart. We had a great time, and I look forward to tasting that first batch. Check out the date on the mill. It’s amazing it’s still in use. Blessed are the syrup makers for they will sweeten the earth !

Bet that stuff is going. I still get Stiens in the cans. Gotta warm the cans to get it out this time of year.

My grandfather was born in 1897!

Unlike your mill, he is no longer in working condition.

I had two uncles in Mississippi that would make cane syrup. My father and I would go up and help cut cane and cook. You couldn’t buy any close that syrup. Unfortunately both uncles have passed on and so has the syrup making. Sure do miss it.

Good cane syrup long ago just North of LA. line on Hwy. 51 near Magnolia MS, Good Molasses near Jackson MS., Good Ribbon Cane Syrup North of Alexandria.
    This was long ago.
Judge Chutz & Family have been making cane syrup in Dennis Mills, LA. every December for many years.

I will have some for sale. I’ll post on the site when we get it bottled. May be the next batch as I think my kin folk may have all of this syrup sold. I’ll know on Monday.

Definitely will buy some as I'm out of the last round tried to ration it. My extended family has started making some in st Martinsville, but I'm too far out and the batch is too small for me to get any.

Is your press hand cranked? I'am originally from Ky. and we used a mule tied to a long pole going around in circles to operiate the press. The juice was boiled down into a thick syrup, Are you using sugar cane? We use sorgum which I think is related to sugar cane.
