Trump raises eyebrows last week by (doing an Obama thing) and not going to Arlington on Veterans Day. Now he is screwing 2016 flood victims who had hoped for relief of the stupid duplications of benefits law. Seems he is not signing the waiver required for Hud to change rules to release the Restore money. I have been a conservative Republican for most of my life but it seems Trump does not represent me. The days of voting across the board for republicans is gone. It appears that Trump will join Carter and Obama in the bottom of list of US Presidents. My 2 cents worth.

What make me mad is all the people who don’t buy flood insurance and then bitch the government hasn’t paid for their home to be completely fixed at no cost to them. I have and always had flood insurance and got about half of what the damages were. This is due to a number of flood insurance regulations like depreciation and deductibles. Someone please tell me how the building materials the home is built with deprecate but my home value has increase in the same time frame.

THIS!!!! The more people that buy flood insurance the cheaper it will be for all...

The building materials depreciate. Every item has a usable lifespan. Modern homes have a generous lifespan of about 100 years say... OTOH, the lots have appreciated. Reconstruction rates and replacement values are not the same as market value (think of an average home in an average neiborhood. Not put a duplicate of that home in the ritziest neighborhood in town, and another in the worst neighborhood nearby. It doesn't cost more to rebuild or repair any of the three. BUT resale would be vastly different. Make sense?). I don't always agree with the depreciation tables but they are usually state approved and regulated.

...IANAL... but I am an insurance agent...

You’re having regrets about not voting for Hillary?

I doubt it. I have many concerns about our current POTUS.

Ya don't pay, ya don't play!

While I generally agree, the whole "flood insurance" thing was not understood. Many folks didn't believe they needed flood insurance because they were not in a flood zone. Lots of folks didn't understand their risk to flooding due to the information they had being incorrect. That and the whole I-12 dam thing. I'd really like to understand it's impact.

I consider all areas flood zones. I think I live in an area where people are safe drivers but I still carry auto insurance. I know it’s the law in most places to have auto insurance. Your home is usually your biggest asset, why not take every step to protect it? Flood is way too cheap in non flood zones not to have. It won’t make you whole but it does help. During Harvey we were the only people on our street that had flood. 40% of our neighborhood flooded. We did not. When your house backs up to a river and you don’t have flood insurance, shame on u. I heard time and time again, it never floods around here. Well guess what, times have changed. I feel for those who flooded because we flooded in Katrina.

I have had a flood policy since 1992 when I bought. If I want someone to cover my home for a flood I call them. and have.
Also, I am still paying an additional one for Katrina since The State Run did does not have enough to cover the policyholder's claims.

I was living in Slidell when Katrina hit. We had moved there about 4 months earlier. And when I say we, I mean my (now ex-)wife moved us. We did not live in a flood zone (I know it's all a flood zone) and took 4 feet of water. We did not have flood insurance. The government didn't give us money. They offered us a loan through the Small Business Association we would have to pay back. At first we were pissed. But when we crunched the numbers, we realized we could borrow enough to pay off the current mortgage and repair the house and our monthly payments were still lower than our current mortgage. We would have actually been worse off if we had been given money like other people were. It wouldn't have been enough to cover all the repairs.

Unless the Republican Party manages to throw somebody better on the table for 2020, I’ll be voting for Trump again without hesitation. I don’t care how many people refuse to see things getting better. I’m not ignorant nor blind, I see it for myself.
I don’t care that they expect utopia in a term. I grew up in the real world and I recognize that simply putting a stop to many things that are totally wrong is progress. I know that all that is wrong with our nation cannot be fixed in one term by one person. I’m not selfish enough or delusional enough or narcissistic enough to think a POTUS is only a good President if he addresses all of my wants and needs.
I don’t care about people who get their feelings hurt every other day. I will live my life and be myself and be deaf to their crying.
Clueless, pessimistic people with poor memories and thin skin did not build this nation. They can all sit and cry with their hand out waiting for a pull on the teet til hell swallows them up for all I care. They don’t bring anything worthwhile to the table. They’re not doing our country any sort of service.
There’s not been a president since Reagan who has come close to turning things around for this nation as much as Trump. Keep watching CNN and you’ll never know the positive things that are happening around you day after day. Cry and complain about the state of our nation and all the faults of our president and see how much that improves things.

The only reason for my home flooding was the pumps were never turned on. Thanks Aaron. It's
Ok I elevated and put in 40 truck loads of dirt all new flat work and 250 foot of retaining wall. I am now on a hill. At my own expense.

All flood insurance is run by FEMA no matter what agent you buy it through. With that being said the folks who were smart enough to bite bullet and cover their own butts should have their claims handled first. Then the ones who don’t put out the money for flood insurance should suffer the consequences. I don’t live in a flood zone like most my subdivision but we have always had since we purchased the house 21 years ago. One neighbor took on about a foot of water. As we were cleaning out the house and cutting sheetrock, a FEMA agent stopped by. This was on the Monday after the flood, by Wednesday he had a $23,000 direct deposit in his account. It took me a month just see an agent and then another three months to get any money. I see a major problem here.

I have to agree with you 100% a tree needs to bend when the winds blow too hard or it will snap. he is not perfect but he is better then what we could have had.

I had replacement value and got 85% of what my policy was, that is what the difference is

Trump didn't go to Arlington on Veteran's Day because he was in...FRANCE. The cemetery visit he didn't make was on Nov. 10, at an American military cemetery there (and to me that IS pretty lame to have missed that), but he made the November 11th 100th anniversary of the end of WWI remembrance, at which French president Macron made some kind of snubbish comments about Trump's trade positions. He couldn't have possibly made Arlington, but of course, that's what people who don't like him will jump on. Every president misses some things and makes others. If I'm not mistaken, Obama never made Arlington for Veteran's Day until 2012, when it screwed up my opportunity to see the wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns, but of course no one in the media is going to make sure that is brought up.

What, not getting a handout from the government has you ticked at Trump? If you did not have flood insurance, why do you think government should be on the hook? Sounds like you are and have been a socialist expecting moma government to hold your hand through life - and never really a conservative responsible for his own welfare.
