A friend gave me a Stag Arms Stainless Heavy Fluted 18" 1:8 5.56 barrel. Mid length.

I stared at it in my ballistic laboratory for weeks, perhaps months.

Then I ordered a 17" M-Lok 1" diameter rail, a low profile gas block, a gas tube, and a billet slick side upper. $143.05

PSA had MagPul lower kits on sale for $89.99.

Next week I'll order a bolt control group $89, charging handle 13, and thread protector $8.

That'll give me a complete rifle for around $350.

I'll still need sights and perhaps an optic.

Oh, It'll be built on one of my many Anderson lowers.

Problem with 400 dollar builds is, most people have a few rifles already. So you build the gun, after optic and accessories you are out almost 7-800 bucks or more, and you WON'T shoot it, b/c you have your nicer rifles in the safe and want to shoot them.

Yea, . . . My problem is that I don't shoot rifles much at all. I'm a pistol guy. Still, I get drawn to these projects like a moth to a flame.

    Just an update.

I contacted Poor Man's Black Rifle about the lack of a tracking number. They apologized and explained that in the rush to ship within two days, it fell through the cracks. They then gave me a $10 credit towards my next order. Good Customer service, so far. Still no product to evaluate.

PSA still has not shipped my product. No customer service, but you get what you pay for.

Still waiting on my order from PMBR. Without a tracking # I've no idea when it'll arrive.

My order from PSA, placed on the eighth, is still being processed. This makes six days and counting.

Nothing to put together. Nothing to take pictures of. Nothing.

My order from Poor Man's Black Rifle arrived today, while I was at work. Postmark says it was mailed on the 9th. I placed my order on the evening of the 8th. That's fast shipping. I cheeped out on the faster shipping option.

I really like this slick side lower. I need a dust cover. I've got one at work.

The finish on the gas block leaves something to be desired, but the machining all appears to be good.

The finish on the hand-guard and receiver are great. Not an exact match in shade, but very close. Machining matches, and looks good on both.

My order from PSA is still pending. . .

My order from PSA shipped today, the 15th. Still not at a UPS facility.

One of the four items from PMBR was a mid length gas tube.

The most reliable way to determine the gas tube length required, is to order and install the wrong length.

I ordered a rifle length gas tube at work today. I also installed a dust cover, pin and spring. No clip required. A bit of a PIA to install it from the wrong side.

    Shortly I'll start posting pictures.

I'm thinking that a budget 1-4X illuminated, First Focal Plane scope might be the best. Perhaps a 1-6 power. It'd need generous eye relief. 4-4.5".

I slapped a Rock River Linear Brake on the barrel for now.

I still need to order a BCG/Charging handle.

I spent $127 on the Nikon 3X fixed power scope. It's got a BDC calibrated for M885. It will be here Monday.

    Nikon Offset Rings arrived today.

I was looking at optics at Academy today. I need one maybe 2, need more to look at to make a decision.

Yea, . . , I don't even pretend to be knowledgeable about scopes and optics. I rely on brand name reputation, and reviews. Then I look at my budget.

In this case, Nikon's Lifetime No Fault Warranty appealed to me. You break it, they fix or replace it. Service can be slow though, according to what I've read.

LMAO! This guy cracks me up. Only thing that will keep you from shooting is lack of time or ammo..

The PSA premium BCG’s go on sale for 59.99 regularly. I usually buy a few then.

Wow, I don't like heavy rifles.
You're going to hate this one then.

I ordered a BCG and Charging handle this morning, from PMBR.

In the meantime, I"ll shoot this tomorrow with a borrowed BCG from another build.
