Well it's already trespassing for them to be there without your or that company's permission.

When the guys killed the deer at my house a week or two later the Game Warden called me and met me and handed me $500 for turning them in. I wish they would come shoot another one for that price :D

It's hard to legally hunt in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Wait, You get paid to turn in outlaws?

No, please don't -- unless it was aggressive. Dogs can't "trespass" as they do not understand property rights. Shooting an animal for simply being on your land without posing a threat would definitely be unlawful; it would not be jail time but it would be a fineable offense.

Another great reason for why an owned (not wild) pet should always be maintained correctly with a leash or in a properly secured enclosure.

Should the animals in question be wild then no issues either way.

The dog hunters can legally trespass onto ANYONES property to retrieve a stray hunting dog as long as they carry no weapons with them. Any harm done to a dog that may have strayed onto private property may be subject to a stiff fine AND civil restitution may be in order. It may be a $10,000 dollar coon dog.

The laws regarding hunting will never cease to amaze me...

Some random dog roams onto my property and starts barking and advancing towards me, so I shoot it.

Then, some half arsed "hunter" who can't "hunt" by himself (needs a dog to help) takes me to court over his "10,000 dollar super pooch"

Yeah, I am in the right, but now I am in court and I have to listen to a bunch of tripe about his "property" and the "costs to replace" and BS like that. Then I would have to point out that he may have overpaid and that there is no way i would let something with legs that i paid 10k for out of my sight for even 1 second.... Let along have it running wild through the woods...

Personally I do not agree to running dogs on open land... At bare minimum the law should place the dog owners "on their own" if anything happens to them or the dogs while in the act. And other laws should be a lot harsher to these hunters if their dogs are involved with innocent bystanders during this exercise.

I guess we are back to interpretation of what constitutes a good shot on a dog. Absolutely, if a dog is coming at you in a aggressive matter and you fear bodily harm you are allowed to shoot it. But if a dog is just passing through and barking does not constitute a good shot.....Laws are on the books, until they change we must abide.

I guess every action has a reaction, but it must be within reason. If a 4-year old runs up and punches you in the groin, do you turn around and cock kick the toddler?

Well there's you answer Gator, put up a 8' wooden fence, and add constantine wire on top

Hahaha, Just got a call from the land manager for the land south of me.

They are going to approve a lease so that I can remove Dip S.and Son's deer stand and post the land along with either an escort from LDWF or the local deputy.

Man, That ''Free Range Hunting '' is a pipe dream to some in Louisiana.

''The'' laws about running dogs is on the books and pretty strait forward in La.

A hunter has every right to retrieve his animal with the exception He cannot be armed, He cannot cut your fence down, etc

You as a property owner have every right to shoot the animal IF it's attacking livestock,Your pets,Wife ,Kids, or even if its trying to rip your leg off and beat you with it.

There is no open land in Louisiana,Good luck trying to run some on a WMA,Although some exceptions are made for example rabbits dogs with a known breed.

    Retrievers of a know breed.

Tracking dogs---On a lease in order to retrieve game (See wanton waste)

I agree with the reasonable reaction concept, and do my best to exercise it!

If a 4yr old punched me in the groin you best believe he/she would receive a spanking if it was my kid (my daughter knew better about hitting well before 4yrs old) or I would be having a conversation with the kids parents and expecting to witness the reprimand (verbal is fine) that the 4yr old would receive. I would not kick the kid back, that would be wrong due to size and power differences. If the 4yr old was trying to stab me with a random used syringe I would likely have a hands off approach, which might end up with the kid suffering injuries from a random object that was not part of my body. Not catching incurable diseases (or any disease) is a top priority for me!

And I can imagine the same kid would end up growing up to be that guy who runs dogs and trespasses on someone else's land! And the chances of his poorly trained dog biting is that much more likely as well!!!

Decent people do not generally cause issues, it is the rest of the unwashed masses!

Would LDWF charge them with trespassing or what? What charges fall under their scope?
