I dabble in BP some. I cast and shoot .50 cal round balls in a flint lock, also load BP cartridges for a Sharps rifle I have. Like to hunt doves with a 12g BP muzzle loader. I cast some .36 cal round balls for a Navy pistol but generally prefer shooting rifles so don’t use much. Good bunny buster though.

No Rifle. But have a Pistol and never shot it. A Ruger Old Army New in Box. Have Caps, Balls and a mold. Tallwaker said we could shoot it someplace he knows.

TC Omega .50cal rifle I got off Walmart clearance for $75. Thinking about getting a TC caplock rifle and actually hunt primitive during the season. I used to shoot rifles in .32, .36, .45, .50, and .54 and revolvers in .32, .36, and .44 and a 28ga shotgun at one time or another. I use Blackhorn 209 and Hornady .50cal 300gr FPB bullets in the Omega.

A TC Hawken in 50 Caliber from the late '70s and a Pedersoli Colt 1860 Army bought in the '90s.
I don't shoot them as often as I used to.
The Hawken is a tack driver with the right load. As far as the 1860 goes, if you expect to hit someone in the chest inside 10 yards, aim for their belt buckle. I've heard this is not unusual.

Had a CVA Plains 50 cal,First time out shot a forked horn deer.

2nd time out I shot at a 250lb boar hog,He charged me, To this day I believe he couldn't see me because of the smoke!

He went one way,I went the other way.

I was really just trying to gauge the interest of blackpowder shooting
I have two rifles and a handgun from my father in law.

It's been on the decline locally since primitive weapons season opened to cartdrige rifles.
There aren't many places to shoot either. Some outdoor ranges are dickish about it. Even if you move to the far downwind side.
Up north it's still pretty popular.

I still hunt primitive season with a Lyman Great Plains and an Uberti 1849 finisher. Even during rifle season I’m usually carrying an 1876 Winchester repro, but i load it with smokeless though 1876’s were developed in the BP era.

I have a Colt 1851 Navy .44 and a .50 Hawken I bought in terrible shape for peanuts and turned into a respectable looking rifle, although I'm hesitant to shoot it as the barrel looks a bit scary. Lots of gunk and rust cleaned out of it. Both are repros.

BOOM! Yes I do. Several cap & ball, and one flint. I love the smoke and the loud report. Having to clean them is what keeps me from shooting black powder more often. I have never hunted with one though they accurate enough. I was amazed by how well the revolvers shoot, once I got through the learning curve.
