I suppose I've been a long term lurker for a while too! I've visiting this site on-and-off for a while, usually looking for local sales. I would just as soon keep my money here at home than send off to one of the big box stores. I just retired a few months ago from law enforcement and the National Guard so I've got a lot more time on my hands to surf the net. The way I'm going, I'll need to go back to work soon to pay for all the new toys I'm finding! Looking to build a collection of military rifles and handguns with my son, who is off on an extended field trip to Afghanistan with the U.S. Army! He renewed my interest in collecting after he purchased an M-1 Garrand from CMP before he shipped out. We already had a 1942 Luger and 1945 M1911A1. He got me hooked on collecting WWII and Korean War-era bayonets for the M1 and I've learned a good little bit over the last few months while picking up a few. I'm in the process of converting an outdated entertainment center into a gun cabinet for our collection. Hope to start filling it up when my "boy" gets back home in the fall! Of course, we've also got an assortment modern civilian long guns and handguns for sport shooting and are interested in expanding our collection of those as well. I Hope to be meeting some of y'all online shortly!

You need a 1903 Springfield, 30-40 Krag, a P38, then get a K98 and Gew 98 as a start. There is a gun show in NOLA this weekend you can browse. I'll be there seeing if something is not overpriced.

Welcome from a fellow Red Sticker! Congrats on the retirement, and welcome to the nuthouse. As others have suggested, you've already started heading down the slippery slope and you'll quickly learn that gun safes have a nasty habit of shrinking over time.

Happy for you on both counts. Look for the deals. Don’t rush out and buy all the first examples you find. Take your time and do the research. Don’t rule out luck, because it counts. Keep a cash cache at the ready for those instances where luck plays a part. Don’t be afraid to run potential deals by someone here when you’re uncertain. People who’ve been collecting for 25 or 30 years have likely made mistakes that you can learn from. Good luck!
