This is why our rights are so codependent folks. Go back an read that article. There will be very few of stories like this getting out of New Zealand.

Are we next? Who knows, but if we do our jobs as free men and women and confront tyranny every time in crops up no mater how small and benign with no regard for party we will likely be the last.

When the shooting happened in New Zealand, their Prime Minister wrapped her head in a scarf of political pandering and "announced" that new laws would take effect the next month restricting firearms purchase and ownership. She didn't propose. She didn't initiate debate. She didn't bring it up for a vote by the people or their representatives. Announced. Decreed. Ordered. Their parliament is obviously a sham, they are not representatives of constituents, they are rulers of subjects. Sadly, our Republic is almost at that point through years of atrophy and apathy.

The parliamentary system runs a little different. The party that is in power has total control. We have *circuit breakers* if you will in our system. In theory no one party can take control in one election cycle. Our three branches of government create a pre designed gridlock. Parliaments are the rubber stamp club for the prime minister. They can however at any point have a vote of no confidence and boot the Prime Minister. You hear people talk about America not being the best and how any other western country will do, but they can suck it because it takes metric tons of political $h!t-baggery to erode our rights. Obviously we have metric tons of it, but a weaker nation would have fallen at least four or five times already.

What they are doing isn't far off the "logic" of arresting an entire city because someone stole a lawnmower. :dunno:

When a police spokesman there pointed out gun ownership was a privilege, not a right, I thought to myself 'here it comes'.....

Absolutely. Some have never stopped trying to make the claim it's "outdated". They are precisely the type of people the guys who wrote it had in mind......
