This is just a gesture of goodwill to the the Italian-American community. It is also a good history lesson. Many people I have spoken to over the years have had no idea that events like that ever happened in New Orleans.
I am an Orleans Parish resident and have no problem with this.

Cantrell apologizing for something that happened before she or anyone she knows was born? Is she serious?

Seems like a look at me moment. Is it election time in NO?

Nothing anyone today can do to apologize for something someone else did in previous generations... maybe I just missed something about what this really is.

No, this is not election time. She has been in office only 1 year.

"Who Killa Dat Chief?" Is what I heard about in the 70's. There was a little tune to whistle to that phrase to intimidate the N.O. Italians.

Now that the mayor has apologized offiically and we've healed the tragic, nationalist American vs. Italian divide that has been plaguing the great City of New Orleans, we can move on into peace and prosperity without all the violence and mayhem that has been festering under the surface as a result of this shameful incident in our past. Yeah...that's the ticket!

As an Italian-American who was born and raised in the New Orleans metro area, I demand reparations! $60,000 or 10 acres and a goat ought to do it.

I've heard the stories from back in the day. Italians were not treated well. I appreciate the apology, sort of. Well, I appreciate the recognition of wrong doing anyway. OTOH, it sets a precedent...
