So Im hanging out at a buddies house and notice some shotguns sitting on a top shelf in his garage and ask about them. 17yrs ago his dad passed away and he got the shotguns. They were covered in dirt, surface rust, scuffs, etc.... So I told him, I've been into firearms for years and would love to clean them up, get the rust off them etc... He laughs and agrees to let me try while telling me they are to far gone, but if I want to waste my time trying, I'm welcome to. Tonight I took his Mossberg 500 and completely stripped it. Got some 3 in 1 oil, a green scotchbrite, some furniture restorer, rags etc... And started scrubbing.... 3hrs later... The bore is shiny, smooth and clean and well, this thing is far from perfect, but it looks pretty good I think considering the shape it was in. I only regret not taking pictures before i started. Ive got 2 more shotguns to do and will definately get before pics of them and post up...

Nice of you. I did the same recently with a very old Stevens double, for a friend.
It would be a shame not to clean up those guns.

Nice job. It is good that you did that for him. It is always a positive thing to get guns back into service, and not on a shelf someplace.

Damn Bruh, You need to just take those home and keep them!

With that being said, I was told I can keep the Winchester, so that one is mine now... But the Stevens is all him. He keeps trying to give me money for cleaning them up/restoring them, but I already told him, I'm doing it for my own enjoyment, so letting me do it, is payment enough...

Think you got the best gun in the Winchester 1200. There is a guy over at AK 47 coatings that has a Ceracoke that looks like a fresh blue and is definitely a more durable finish. God luck.

I managed to get a pic of the Stevens Model 94 before and i snapped one when finished. My plan originally was to completely disassemble, re-blue the receiver, restore the stock, etc.. The whole 9yds.... My buddy asked that i just clean it up real nice and leave the worn finishes on it, cause it makes it think of his dad and where all the scratches and wear came from. So..... I actually had to p ut the brass bore brush on a extension, and run it through with a drill at high speed to get all the **** out the bore, but the bore is shiny amd new looking now and the shotgun is ready to fire..
