Finally Giving In : Building An AR Pistol in 300 Blackout and looking for ideas

When the AR pistols first came out I did not like them but now with recent upgrades in the brace dept and that they can be shouldered I have decided to build one. What really turned me on to them was watching Colion Noir's video on his Modern Outfitters 300 blackout pistol with the 6" barrel and Omega suppressor. That was a sweet set up and I want to build a similar pistol and since you can't buy Modern Outfitter's parts (that I know of) I want to see what others have built.

I would love to see your 300 blackout pistol builds. I plan on suppressing this one at some point.

My main concerns now are the handguard. I am planning on running a 6" barrel which will eventually be suppressed. Handguard selection seems to be pretty slim for 6" stuff. I will want to keep this pistol as short as possible when not suppressed.

So, anyone here have photos of their AR pistol builds?

I have an SBR but its otherwise a pistol build. I run a can on it. I'll post a pic later. What is your price range? If you're looking to spend $$$ on quality parts, just buy a Sig Rattler pistol and you're good to go out of the box.

Before you get too deep, I'd check on the minimum barrel length specified for whichever suppressor you plan on getting. Some manufacturers have limits that they warranty for.

Thanks for the pointer LaBelle. I’ll keep that in mind.

As for budget, I want somewhat of an economy build but not completely. The Modern Outfitter pistol is 2,499. I want to replicate the overall look of that one possibly. I am spending the money for the Law Tactical folding stock adapter, SB brace etc but have Aero lower and lpk.

I’m looking at barrels and bcg and other stuff in different places though.

I built this last week. Spikes Tactical lower, PSA 8.5" complete upper in 300 Blackout with a SilencerCo muzzle break/mount for the Omega 300 can. Now I need a RDS for it.

    No can:

As suggested, be careful of barrel length. SiCo rates minimal length for the Omega and 300blk at 8”. There are several emails out there from SiCo, esp on AR15.com, clarifying that length is for supersonic loads. The same posts indicate no barrel restriction for subs. You’d do well to email SilencerCo and get it first hand from them though. 8” 300blk pistol is still plenty short if you want to run supers. Especially with the Law Folder.

Here’s one I put together with some repurposed parts a couple weeks ago. 9” KAK Mr Blonde barrel. That barrel has killed lots of hogs and coyotes over the last 3-4 years. The can is a Sandman K. The last pic is comparison to a Rex 16” 308.

I have a Dead Air Sandman S and I asked them about their no barrel length restriction with respect to a 14.5" 308 barrel being too harsh on a can. Here's their reply:

"We use stelite for our baffles on the Sandman series of silencers. We have multiple silencers with 30-40k rounds through them with no wear on the baffles at all. We also have never had a silencer come back to warranty for baffle erosion. You should be good to go with either barrel length and we do mean no barrel length restriction. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions!

I had an 8.2 inch, 8.5 inch, 9 inch and 10.5 inch 300 blk rifles.

I currently own the 8.2 inch Noveske and a 9 inch AAC.

Nothing wrong with the 10.5, it was actually a nice seekins built upper, just longer than it had to be and optically identical to my 10.5 inch seekins 5.56 upper. The 8.5 inch was just a cheap upper to help me decide if I wanted to go 300blk before investing in a whole rifle.
