    I don't think you missed anything. The proposed bill adds enhancements for subsequent convictions and carries a temporary suspension of driver's license but the first offence punishments are the same at the current law on the books, see below, which could currently be used today for the actions in the proposed bill. I don't know if an exception would be made for the suspension for going to and from work. It lists the specific actions but establishes a minimum requirement for enforcement, something the current law does not do. So in that respect, the proposed law weakens the current law. And based on the proposed law, a driver following behind another car at an arbitrary distance deemed too close by a cop can be driving 31 in a 30 mph zone and if he turns right without signalling, he can be arrested.

    LA R.S. 14:99. Reckless operation of a vehicle

    A. Reckless operation of a vehicle is the operation of any motor vehicle, aircraft, vessel, or other means of conveyance in a criminally negligent or reckless manner.
    B.(1) Whoever commits the crime of reckless operation of a vehicle shall be fined not more than two hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than ninety days, or both.
    (2) On a second or subsequent conviction the offender shall be fined not less than twenty-five nor more than five hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not less than ten days nor more than six months, or both.

    Paper flippers and pencil pushers just trying to justify their paycheck. Nothing more nothing less... Add this **** to the other couple hundred laws on the books that dont get enforced.... Face it. It doesnt matter who you are or what you do for a living, not a day of your life goes by that you dont break at least one law on the books... Carry on and relax..
