For some reason in my price range, all I ever find is Colt 1911 Gold Cup N.M. in the caliber I want in 38spl but all with Idiot marks.
It is a rare gun so starts at 1K in bad shape 1500 or so in great shape and 2500 up mint LNIB.
I primarily loom at 1200-1500 ones and will be a shooter. So little wear is ok but the idiot mark always kills it for me.
Blue wear is one thing but I would hate to have an Idiot Mark and have someone think I did it.
Just looked at an almost flawless 1963 one but had "The Mark" Am I am an Idiot?
Does "The Mark" kill it for you?

If all else is good except for the idiot mark maybe that’s a good thing. Shot very little and only cleaned one time by a idiot that realized he was out of his league and bought a plastic pistol.

Anyone who knows will see it and not be silent about it. So, you'll know right away if they think you did it because they will immediately call you out, point and laugh. That is your cue to explain that you paid a lot less than it's worth because you bought it from an idiot!

A slip of the hand will cause an idiot mark, too.... Just sayin'...

2 marks one on side one on frame few smaller ones since shot but the rest is great
The box is crap and does not match anyway really just want the gun.
Maybe it should not matter as will shoot it. One reason I do not want a 2500 plus mint one.
The idiot mark gets me though.

I know the sickness, my friend. Exact same reason I sold my pristine Legion P229. I couldn't bring myself to shoot it. If it's a shooter and a good deal, get it and use it. Then buy a pristine one to collect if you still have the itch.

On a side note, a guy my dad knew was in the army. he said he could not qualify with one since it has that funny grip safety that required you to push it to shoot.
That it was expected to be shot with one hand and you need 2 one to push :eek3:
I just put it up to he had been years since he shot it.
He also said that the gun did not have the ability to shoot well as they designed the bullets to tumble to impact and do more damage
So how can he shoot it well with the bullets flipping through the air?
That they tear the paper when they hit. A always thanked him for his service and left it at that

Now, every 1911 I came across in the Army had an idiot mark!

I told my friends I rather clean their guns than get Bag Of Gun or see it get bashed with rubber hammers etc.
I hate to think of the things guys do with the stuff in the service.
Had one say back in the day him and his buddies with use boot heels on Garands And "Pry the Trigger Group Open"

There are only two 1911s i actually like.... Surplus ones and don't mind a good Norinco... Don't see why the obsession over so many of these overpriced ones.

Nothing wrong with an entry level 1911 in 45acp.
But a real Colt 1911 made in the '60s or 70's fit and finish is another
My current 1911 Kimbers are the cat's ass
In the past, a person had to get into mid-range priced or better to get some calibers.
My Colt Ace 22lr {got it new as a kid thanks dad} is really a Gold Cup NM in 22 unlike the 1911's in 22lr made today there is nothing wrong with them but not the same.
My 1911 Kimber in 9mm and 45 are both full-size target guns well fitted with great triggers.

The 3" Kimber in 45 with Crimson Grips is the mid ranged price for a 1911 but is very well made fit and finish wise smooth trigger etc.

Looking at 38spl Gold Cup National Match Guns. So kinda gets me that someone scratched so many of them.
Those guns had a high polished royal blue finish

A Rock Island etc at $400 bucks is not an Ed Brown, Willson Combat or other high-end gun shoot one and see.
I like the cheaper ones to. Its ok [seinfeld] not that ther is anything wrong with that [/seinfeld]

The Norinco is far better than that RIA.. about the same price. Outside of Target practice the 1911 just does not scratch the itch. Currently I'm thinking of getting a 460 Rowland kit for my Norinco and it will then be my woods gun when in bear country.
