Asking whether Colts specifically are better or worse than any other brand as a whole is sorta like asking if champagne is better than sparking wine. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But except in very limited circumstances I think most of us would rather have (though maybe not “pay for”) a bottle of Bollinger than a bottle of Martini e Rossi.

If you’re collecting or investing, my two cents is Colt first, then any other specifically war manufacturers, then high end boutique brands, then special edition limited production “custom shop” stuff like the Springfield Professional.

If you’re looking for a working gun, then it’s more about budget vs features than anything else. I’d put my SIS up against just about anything any day for function or accuracy but it’s not an heirloom-grade anything; there are others that I think shoot smoother though no more accurately for about the same price point like the TRP full rail, but good luck finding holsters unless they’re custom made. The LEAST accurate one I’ve ever shot (Kimber ultra cdp-2, 3” w/ alloy frame) was still more accurate than me at 25 yards. Heck, my bookshelf pistol (sig 938) is more accurate than me at 25 yards, and that thing is about as close to unfeasible as I’d recommend getting.
