Wait you can’t mail order a gun?
No,now you have to buy it online.
My Inland M1 carbine I bought by mail order around 1957 has yet to misbehave.

As others have said, 1968.
I was seven years old. I found out about it from a nice lady in Sears, in Oakwood Shopping Center. I tried to buy my usual box of .22 ammo, and was told that I had to have my Mom buy it for me because the jlaw changed.
For a couple of years after that, the fellows at Western Auto, on Gen Meyer, would still sell to us, despite the laws. Then one day THAT changed.
They used to advertise German Lugers in the back of 'Boy's Life' magazines for $19.95 + $4.00 Shipping/Handling. Could never get Mom to write that check.
Your Mom saved your life. The Luger would have warped your young impressionable mind and turned you into a Nazi.
Yea, . . . , I've got three of them now. Wish I had bought them for $19.95.
