Any thoughts on the desert eagle? It was suggested to me that a 10mm would be just as much fun to shoot and cheaper ammo.

I have a couple in 44mag and like them just fine. For $500 I could buy the .50 barrel and 2 mag conversion kit but have no desire to do so mostly due to the difference in ammo cost and availability. I also have a few pistols in .22LR that I wouldn’t want in any other caliber. I’m just an oddball and nobody should listen to me.
.44 mag ammo can be had for around 50-70 cents per round. Not sure what .50AE is going for but it’s more than that.

If you are a reloader, why have any other caliber DE?
I dont have one, but there’s one on the medium short list of need to haves.

Here is a video on 10mm vs .45. I already have a .50AE. I wanted a 10mm for a long time. After watching this video I have cooled on the 10mm. The .50AE is a blast to shoot. Watch some of the high speed camera vids of the AE. That being said everybody should buy/own what they want. We do it with houses, cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Why not guns?

I can think of no practical reason to own a Desert Eagle. That wouldn't stop me from owning one.

(That said, this is the kind of gun that I'd buy with resale in mind, knowing that I'd probably shoot it a half-dozen times and then flip it for something else.)

Novelty. Which of course is not to say I wouldn't take one if someone gave it to me... or I won it... but I wouldn't spend my money on it.

Why would anyone own a Desert Eagles?

As my two year old would say ‘cause why’. (Because no one stopped him)

Own it if you like it. It’s not something I care to own, but if we were shooting together I would want to shoot it a couple times. Kind of like the boat vs friend with a boat debate.

If it tickles your pickle enjoy your freedom while we still have it.

I know many times I almost got one. Had quite a,few new and lime new ones in my hands.
On my short list but something else always looks better.
Always grabbed something mkore practical as far back az,1990 that has happened.
In 1990 got the bug for one.90 I wanted one and they had a LNIB but ordered a 29 Classic blued custom sights in 8 3/8. Even the owner said I was smart. I got more use a and fun.
One day I will get one or a S&W 500 14 inch custom shop.
It is just not 1st on my list. Size is one problem for me.
If ya,have the cash and want it no reason not to.

I have 3, 357, 44, and 50. The 50 is a handful to shoot, the 44 is amazing compared to a 44 smith revo and the 357 is like shooting weak 38spl out of a 6 inch 686.

They only like to run on hot ammo, but are very accurate and soft to shoot. Stout 44 loads feel like 45acp out of a 1911.

My 50 is the only mark 19, the others are mark 7. If I was going to buy them again I would do the 3 caliber kit. That way all would have pict railed barrels to run optics. No real need for multiple lowers as they are range toys or hunting guns.

Great guns, well made and a blast to shoot. Most haters I have found either never shot one or are too weak to pick one up!

Agree on all points. My first was a .357 and it was one of the problematic ones so I ditched it. I’ve heard IMI got it right eventually tho. All in all I find my MK VII performs as well as my XIX in 44 mag but it feels lighter. I shot 2 mags through a 50AE and thought it had a bit more snap than the 44 but by the second mag I realized the majority of that is the noise. I know if I’d bought a .50 or conversion barrel it would not get shot near as much.

I have wanted a DE for years, but in 44 mag. I've had several in my hand and that was the problem.. for me the handle is to large to be comfortable. So.. I picked up a 500 S$W a few years ago, fits my hand just fine and a little more hog power than that 50AE.. Still want a DE.. but my hands in my 60s just aren't getting any bigger!

A friend bought one, it was fun to shoot. At the time it was also horribly expensive to feed.
In the end it was cool if you could justify it but there wasn't much that you could do with that wasn't done better with something else.

I've owned one in 50AE for almost 20 years. Its fun to pull out of the safe every couple of years. Its big, its heavy, accurate and pricy to shoot. but its just too damn cool to not have one in the safe.

If you need a reason to own one remember AMERICA FUQ yeah!

50AE is much more powerful than 10mm and even more powerful than .44mag. You're considering a Deagle so I assume price is not a concern. Plus if you had a .50 (even 50AE) you could refer to your .50 lol like "Let me go get my .50", or "my .50 could handle that" or "If I had my .50 on me..." haha it would just be cool to own "a .50". You don't buy a deagle for practical purposes. It would probably be a great pig gun, as heavy as it is, I'd rather tote that along than a rifle from pig hunting perspective, you can keep both hands free, and as long as you got one in the chamber you know you could get at least one off before it jams. Other than that it would be great to show off to out of town relatives, "Hey you guys wanna see my .50?" watch them drool... Or have a conniption... Usually one or the other.

One small tidbit for avid shooters of these pistols:
Go to Kahr arms website and search on the Desert Eagle parts page and order a couple extractor springs for 5 bucks each. Easy replacement and it’ll keep yours running smooth. Just search part number DE01035 and it’ll take you to the right page.

If you look closely at the 4th pic you can see a new polymer spring to the left, and a spent one to the right. I’m not sure why there’s not a steel replacement. It’s about the same size as a AR10 extractor and very similar so I’m inclined to believe that part would work, but I don’t wanna be the first to try.
