The ole bee man just got out of the woods after a week of camping and fishing in Northern Minnesota. Let’s just say the weather was wild and wooly with low temps in the 40’s with rain and more rain. We usually go in canoes as most of the boundary waters are canoe only, but there are a few areas where boats are allowed so we chose the boat camping option this time. I love the canoes but with the weather being like it was it was nice to just motor back to camp st the end of the day. We had two new people who turned out great so campfire time was a fun treat every night. We stayed M-F and had rain almost every day. The beginning of the week was better and it got worse as the week went on. As far as fishing went the bee man represented quite well. We had our best days fishing on Tuesday (caught and landed 12-13 nice fish)and Wednesday ( caught and landed 10-12 nice fish) but we fished on the way out Friday and I landed my best bass of the trip on Friday morning before the rain gods struck again. We caught smallmouth, largemouth, northern pike and perch. No walleye this time but hey I love the bass so I was happy. All were caught on artificial with the wacky worm leading the way, followed by a black and silver rapala minnow, then closed out with some different crank baits and in-line spinners. If I could find a tree that had fallen from shore into the water I could find bass. I lost a big smallie on Tuesday and Wednesday. I saw both fish as they laughed in my face when they threw my worm. Those were heartbreakers my friends but I made up for it on the other days. If you can you need to make this trip. It’s a beautiful place with great fishing. It’s not an easy trip but worth the effort. Nature pictures first then fish pics in the second post.
