All that and when you can actually get in a local shop while they are open and are willing to pay extra for buying local, you have a 50% chance of getting good/polite service. Some areas are better than others but buying local is a big ask when you take everything into account. But the big box and chain stores ain’t been hitting on much the last 10-15 years either. I’ve become more and more reliant on online stores with fast shipping.

I also use online a lot. We have a couple local hardware stores that are still decent and I shop those often.

I buy my ammunition by the case from Cajun Ammo in Baton Rouge when possible.

That’s a far drive for me but if I’m ever out that way I’ll definitely check them out. For the most part my ammo comes from SG ammo (great honest folks).

SGAMMO is what I recommend for anyone that does not buy local and orders ammunition online.

I never bought ammo from Wal-Mart anyway. When I go by the sporting goods area at Wal-Mart, there is NEVER a person manning the counter.

If you say so. In my time I’ve never lived near any decent mom and pop shops with anything decent as for inventory. I’ve never left a mom and pop shop because of price it’s only because of lack of inventory (they blame the lack of inventory on things before my time). Personally I feel like the generations before me screwed up mom and pop shops I’m 40 and I’ve always attempted to shop local but can only spend so much time riding around looking for things on my lunch hour because most of the local guys have bank like hours.

But look at how many people say they hate Walmart and won’t shop there but order ammo online, Those guys should be buying ammo at the LGS correct?

We used to have a local mom&pop type general store, baby powder to guns& ammo plus everything in between. I purchased most of my guns there including quite a few special order items. The original owner started it selling surplus rope out of truck and it grew to taking a whole city block His son took it over and declining health and lack of interest from his children lead to closing. They generally had a good selection, especially sporting goods and hardware. It got to the point where one of the senior clerks told me that a big problem was suppliers. They only wanted orders for full cases of items which would have been unreal for a lot of items.

I purchased four boxes of 9mm from my local Walmart the other day. And a box of .30-30 Fusion for hunting season. I have boycotted them, and pending a few potential returns will never step foot in a Walmart again. I have boycotted Walgreens, CVS, and Kroger also. I spend hundreds a month at Walmart normally, I have not been in for a purchase in over a month now. I hate the way they treat their employees, lack of benefits, and auto check out lanes so as to not hire more workers. Walmart can go to hell and their CEO as well. :D

Self checkout and no carts inside are the direct result of this “minimum equals living” wage crap from socialists. Cheaper foreign made products available in stores are a direct result of competition - they’ve gotta price down to get us in the door and keep a profit margin, and domestic goods won’t meet that unless we’re ok with “made in USA” quality becoming worse than “made in (insert where you think is worst)”.

All this is what’s driving online shopping. If I’ve gotta check myself out, and get cheap foreign products, and what few people work there have crappy attitudes... well heck with it I’ll at least get somebody else to deliver it. That’s why so many states are pushing online sales tax (or forcing online retailers to ship via local brick and mortar storefronts) and delivery tax (to replace gas tax you’re not burning).
