I recently got to fondle a sweet war-piece, a Remington Rand 1911, U.S. Property (Army) marked. An elderly lady called asking it be removed from her house, when her husband left (divorce) it was left behind, and when he kept asking for it later, she could not find it. He eventually tried to sue her over it but was told he was too late. Well after that, she finally found it on top of a cabinet in the bathroom, in period leather issue flap holster, enclosed in a Ziploc bag. It had only trace amounts of finish left on it, but was almost completely rust free, and fit and function all seemed fine. Another Ziploc had a box of GI ball which appeared to be of similar period. As long as the guy has not since become a felon or been adjudicated mentally incompetent, he's going to be getting a pleasant surprise. It's a good thing for him the old lady doesn't do much Googling, if she saw the potential value she might have just decided to supplement her Social Security with a little bonus!
