    Good Morning Y'all,

New to the site, but been hunting the area for 2 seasons so far.

My name is Jacob located in New Orleans

I frequent the Pearl River WMA as much as I can. Mostly looking for those fluffy tailed tree rodents we all know and love.

When the opportunity presents itself Deer and Hog get thrown into the mix. But theres nothing like going out and getting a limit of tree rats.

Hit me up if you're ever looking to hunt in the greater New Orleans area and want some company. I typically hunt alone, but am always looking for like-minded individuals to share the woods with.

Keep 'em high and tight mommies.
    -Jacob

    Welcome!

As to rifle or shotgun, I prefer a .22 with a can on it.
Doesn’t cause noise pollution and you get more meat from the animal.

Same here. I like sitting in one spot with a 3-12x scope and just dropping my limit. Only real challenge is finding all of them. It’s like a better version of sudoku to exercise my brain, or my memory at least.

    Kennah!
As an aside, I really don’t enjoy eating squirrel; maybe I need a new recipe.

Many years ago I found a dead squirrel in my attic that got electrocuted by chewing on some wires.
There was a lot of scorching nearby and fortunately the breaker tripped and my house didn’t burn down.
Ever since then I have actively hunted and eaten them, mostly because I dislike the idea of killing them and wasting the meat.

Fellow slayer in the house. Welcome aboard.
    Rifle or shotgun?

Both rifle and shotgun. Just depends what time of the season it is and how I feel on any given day.

I go back and forth between .22lr and .22Mag. Can't beat the range that a rifle with a scope affords you.
shotgun wise I typically will go with a breach loading 410. but every once in a while I'll take a 12 gauge pump

Not much left after a 12 gauge I imagine.
But as long as you’re out in nature and enjoying it, all is well in my book.

Yea... the 12 is a very rare occurrence.
    I'd say 90% of the time I've got a .22lr or magnum

    3x-9x 40mm scopes on all hunting 22s

Fried is good to me but mostly for rabbit. Otherwise, I stew them down with chopped onion and seasoning in the crockpot. Might add carrots and potatoes and a little chicken broth or stock from a carton. When falling apart I pull them out and go at them with a fork and flake the meat off the bone and return it to the cook. Poured over rice this is some good. My kids love it too. The wife, not so much. Too bad, so sad.

I won’t go into why I leave the heads on...
