I use the Marlin lever in 35 remington when hunting the swamp. Has worked good for 50 years.

I still have Dad's old 336 sporting carbine he bought back in I think 1952. I have never hunted with it, and got it from him when he got too feeble to shoot it any longer. At that point I had been loading some 158 gr cast semi wadcutters, virtually no recoil and he had gotten to the point where he could not walk any distance or hold it up. That's what about 70 years of smoking can do to you.

30-30 is still an incredibly viable cartridge. I still love my lever actions and the history associated with them... I have a friend that reloads with the flat shooting Barnes 110gr. and/or 120gr. TAC-TX Bullets (Great in the 300 Blackout and 30-30) and the results are AWESOME!!! Of course in a tube fed platform, it's a 2 shot. (One in the pipe, one in the tube for safety.) That's really all you need though for hunting... Just reload if needed. :)

I still use my 30/30s, and old Marlin lever but almost all of my hunting for years has been with my Thompson Contender carbine with an 18" barrel, small light easy to handle and stupid accurate!!

I had a Savage O/U in 30-30 over 20 ga. Let my younger brother use it one time and haven’t seen it since.

Coincidentally, I have an unfired Ted Williams built on the 94 patent. I keep talking about taking it out and dirt rolling a deer or hog with it....just have too many other options I like playing with.

I have the envie for a 30-30 for some reason, maybe because dad had an affection for them............
Any of you guys still using for deer hunting?

I seem to remember the guys at one club using the 30-30 with scopes mounts where you could shoot open sight or scope...........is that my imagination

My first deer rifle was a Marlin 336. Still have it. Don’t hunt with it as much as I should since most of my hunting offers some long shot opportunities. Still, I bet 90% of the deer I’ve killed could have been taken with the 30-30.
As far as the scope mounts, yep, many people set up their scopes with see through mounts so that you could still use the irons if necessary. Still have mine set up like that, though I should get a rear peep sight for it. BBE949FA-6F03-4563-A841-989DA90E7BC1.jpg

My wife bought me Marlin 30-30 At the Old Wal_Mart in Kenner in 1993 for Christmass. When she got home with It and opened the box it was a 35 Remington. The box was marked 30-30 But the gun was a 35 Rem. And the #s matched.
She brought it back and they gave her another 30-30.
I almost hunted with it but trip wasz canceled. The plan was open sights. It shot well that way at Nicks 3 boxes worth.
Has sat in the safe ever since.
Only other Suitable to medium to large Game is a,1903a4 clone with reproduction scope and mount.
To me the 30-30 if I ever hunt will be great for Hogs and the 1903 for Deer?
What do I know I never hunted

I have a couple Marlin 336s. Both were purchased used at gun shows. One is scoped with a see-through mount. I still haven't fired it yet. I've read both good and bad reviews of these mounts. To each his own.

I took my 1st deer at 9yrs old with a marlin 35 cal. I still use it for short range in the swamps. I love lever guns and im 53 yrs old. Its still one of my favorite rifles.

Still use the marlin 336 my dad bought new in the early nineties. With a 9x bushnell and see through sights it is my go to rifle for whitetail.

    Marlin 336

My 20 year old 336CS is a beauty. I don't plan on ever getting rid of it. Such a great rifle, and with the Hornady LeverRevolution rounds, it's easily 200 yard capable with 1304 lbs of energy at that distance.
