I am looking for an OWB holster that has a wire frame attachment system.
I used to have one. It's just like a typical OWB, thumb-break, canted holster but with a stout wire "U" frame as the means of attachment. It was very easy to attach to my waist with the wire frame that slid between my shirt and waistband. The frame was bent in and out so that it hugged the ridge created by a belt on the waistband. Of course, it was also possible to lock the frame around the belt if you didn't want to go inside the waistband. It was very secure, yet when needed I could easily maneuver the clip from my waist with one hand.
If you are a person who has to frequently check-in a weapon such as to place it in a locker upon building check-in, you probably understand the issue. You might have also had to fiddle with trying to get a paddle holster off, or un-hook a snagged J-hook holster, or hassle with the tedium of snaps. If so you know how welcome it is to have a simple but secure system.
For my situation, when I remove my weapon I need to remove my holster as well.
I know that there are lots of people out there who rave about their IWB holsters but they just don't seem to do the job for me. Whenever I use an IWB holster I either snag clothing or rub a sore spot.
The kydex paddle holsters seem to slide around too much. Besides, I'm old-school and I like leather holsters.
I want a replacement!
My former OWB holster with the wire frame was stolen. I wore it constantly for over 30 years. I've been looking for a replacement for years and cannot find one.
I don't know who made it. I thought that it was a Bianchi or a Safariland but those folks have told me "NO." I bought it around 1980 at Granberry's Guns (now long gone). OK, go ahead and say it, a large portion of the members here weren't born in 1980.
From the front, it looked a lot like a Desantis thumb-break. The interior fit well like a Bianchi 19L. I do have that one but it's only available as a belt-loop holster. Lord knows I don't want to have to undo or remove my belt all day.
Has anyone out there seen one of these? Any ideas? Any others with experience using a wire-frame attachment?
