No one from the admin has chimed in so maybe it’s not possible or there is no interest in it. No worries, I was just throwing ideas out there.

The admins/mods, or at least some of them, are brainstorming as to how something like this could be implemented.

I love it. Great read. Read the whole thing. It's worth it. Forget the cliff notes.. I've learned a lot from reading on this site for both legalities and improved my AR15 platform building hobby. Just wish I had more time away from work to get out and meet more of you guys in person. DONTSHOOTMEBRAH is the only person I'm in regular contact with from here..

Adding things to your profile means nothing. My proposal was to have the the admin vet whoever would like certain things on their profile. In my case, I’ve been a LEO for over 20+ years, and I could be easily vetted by my commission. That was my point.

That way people at least know they are getting advice or opinions from someone with knowledge other than just what they’ve read. Might not be a good idea, or not even possible, but it’s still an idea

I agree to a point. Not everyone who holds those certifications have good info/advice. I also know people who don’t hold any of those certifications that are full of great advice. Especially when it comes to mechanics and gunsmiths.

I once had a Glock question about a trigger that failed to reset. It stumped two dozen Glock armorers. One guy, who I don't believe was an armorer at the time, knew how to fix it. From what I gathered, it was due to the time period those armorers received their certification. The gun in question wasn't part of the course at that time. So it would seem that a certification doesn't necessarily mean you will get the right answer. I mean, look at all the NRA instructors out there who preach bad info.

There is no doubt people with certificates and titles don’t always know everything surrounding their trade. I don’t know what you do so will use me as a for instance. I’m an accountant with a degree from upper tier program. I’ve spent the vast majority of my career managing tax and compliance, and financial reporting for construction companies. So by virtue of osmosis I know a good bit about construction, but I know a ton about taxes and licenses and workflows to produce good financial reports. I don’t know it all and continue to learn but if you know something about taxes that I don’t doesn’t necessarily mean you are qualified to sit in my seat, because I likely know volumes about taxes that you have never heard of.

I don’t think the intent of some type of identifier is intended to discredit people aren’t professionally ‘gun people’ (best I got) in one form or another, but to lend a little more credence to those who are’s posts.

I will say, people talk to each other online the way they do, often because there is no fear of consequences for their actions. That will likely never change anonymity or not. I’ve had people email crap professionally like they were the king of England demanding stuff, but they are like sheep when you get them on the phone or better yet in person. I prefer some anonymity because my personal opinions, are my own, and on certain things may not match up with popular opinions or those of my employer. I’m very sensitive to that because my particular skill set and the level at which I’m employed is a pretty small market.
